New Pumar ad campaign is wicked sucky

Have you see the new Boston-themed wall-to-wall campaign for Puma at Park Street? It spells out words like "Habah" and "dance floah."

Kate Hutchinson is weihded out:

Dear Puma: boston accent advertising has been done to death. Try something new, like selling your product

Aaron Weber also gets his Boston up, says he finds the ads condescending at best:

... It marks the advertiser as an outsider desperate to fit in, as a tourist, as an out-of-towner. You might as well walk the Freedom Trail in khaki shorts, sandals with socks, a tricorner hat and a t-shirt with a lobster on it. That's definitely not the image Puma wants, but it's what they're getting. ...

BC student has all his electronic stuff seized by campus police

A Boston College student had all his computers (and iPod and cellphone) seized by campus police investigating the sending of a derogatory e-mail to a college newsgroup. Some of the suspicious facts used to justify the seizure -- the fact that he was seen using lots of different notebook computers (apparently he claims he fixes computer problems for other students) and his use of a non-standard operating system that used a suspicious-looking command line and typed-in commands (i.e. Linux).

Flaherty picks up a police endorsement

Wicked Local Roslindale posts the Boston Police Superior Officers Federation endorsement of Michael Flaherty.

David Bernstein, meanwhile, writes up some of the more interesting fundraising tidbits of late - for example, Sam Yoon doesn't have the Asian money completely sewn up.

Wonder if the T's new bus simulator can

replicate what I witnessed tonight. About 5:25 pm, a Route 55 bus going through the intersection of Boylston and Tremont in the middle lane blew a right rear tire. No flying debris (very fortunate for the cabbie that was starting to pass the bus in the right lane), and the driver maintained control (very fortunate for the bus passengers) and pulled over to the curb by the Dunkies, but it sure made a loud BANG!

We get the scoop: Ice-cream monopoly to end in Rozzie Square

New joint coming

Of course, I had to rush home to dish up this news: Roslindale Square is getting another ice-cream place. Jimmies, opening soon on Corinth Street, next to Imperial Kitchen, will also serve food on buns.

Currently, Roslindale residents who need ice cream have to travel down to Belgrade for Select Cafe, the former Emack and Bolios. The cafe, which is more of a coffeehouse that serves ice cream, is currently redecorating a bit - and no longer requires people to ask for a key at the counter for the restroom.

Court ups the ante against Shephard Fairey

A Boston Municipal Court judge ruled today that when Fairey is arraigned tomorrow on a series of vandalism charges, ten of the counts will be brought as felonies, rather than misdemeanors, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The ruling means that Fairey could now face jail time - up to three years on each count - rather than fines of no more than $100 on each count, all related to his allegedly failing to obey state laws that prohibit defacing public property with posters, even those that are later exhibited at waterfront art museums.

Innocent, etc.

Apparently the panhandlers get more ornery late at night

Boston Police report a rebuffed request for money turned into an attempted holdup around 1:30 this morning in Chinatown: When a man refused to give some guy $2 at Washington and Essex streets, the guy started yelling at him.

According to the victim, the suspect then put his hand in his pocket feigning like he was armed and told the victim, "You are not going anywhere!" while pushing him several times.

The victim, however, did go somewhere - down Essex Street, where he had earlier seen some cops, who promptly arrested Douglas Murphy, 35, on charges of assault with intent to rob and assault and battery.

Innocent, etc.
