do you mean compusa on market street?
i'd heard a rumor ages ago that a trader joe's was coming to that spot on market street. haven't heard much since then though. wicked curious.
Old circuit city in
Old circuit city in Brighton?? Where was this??
I think you may be referring to the old COMPUSA????
Changed
Thanks.
CompUSA?
There was a Circuit City in Brighton? I can't recall one off the top of my head. There was a CompUSA on Market at N. Brighton. I wonder if that's where he means.
If they are rejuvenating that location, that'd be great. It's been a bit of an eyesore on an otherwise fairly decent stretch of businesses.
EDIT: Heh, I should learn to refresh after spending 10 minutes searching for a Circuit City I never knew about. :)
Fretter, maybe?
If memory serves-- and it often doesn't-- I think there was a Fretter store there. Same basic idea as Circuit City and Best Buy-- TVs, stereos, electronics, etc.
Used to be Computer City, I think
I think this was built as 'Computer City', a smaller chain that CompUSA later took over.
Originally a Best Buy-like store
Highland? Their ads featured Q from the Bond movies.
Highland was a different chain
and they had a similar competitor, Fretter Superstores. Both chains came and went here within a few years in the 1980s or early 90s.
Right, but their Brighton store eventally became the CompUSA
We spent a fair amount of time there :-).
CVS
I thought that I heard it was going to be a new CVS.
CVS and something else
Assuming this is accurate.
Boo!
Yay. Another CVS in Brighton. Great. I didn't have enough pharmacy choices yet....
grumbleWantedgrumbleTJgrumble...
I wonder if they'll close the one on Washington or just run both of them.
The old CompUSA on Market St
The old CompUSA on Market Street in Brighton will be half a CVS and half something else yet to be decided. A number of companies have looked at it, but it's a large foot print and many have not gone ahead.
CVS attended the Brighton Allston Improvement Association earlier this year with an update on their progress. The pharmacy will have a drive through part.
Again, the other half is yet to be decided. Any questions, contact Rosie from Brighton Main Streets at .

The other half
I heard that Marty's Liquors was looking at it.
Woot?
That would be hot if true. It'd be closer than Martignetti's for me and I miss Marty's in my neighborhood (bring back the mystery box!). Plus it'd be some local color in the businesses around there. The old Dunkin' Donuts sign is gone, the CVS is just YAC! (yet another CVS/pharmacy) in the city...I guess I'm just glad it's not a Starbucks or something.
Popeye's Chicken?
This would be a great place for another Popeye's chicken. Would possibly be the world's largest Popeye's, given the size of the CompUSA.
George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Star perhaps?
They've been known to tear the roof off the sucka!
CVS will bring the funk
The A.B. Parliament approved a groovalicious Sovereign Bank for that space.
Maybe Harvard bought it.
Maybe Harvard bought it. They can tear the roof off and leave it abandoned for five years. That way they block bust Brighton too.
