Saying good bye to Robin Williams in the Public Garden

All day, people slowly approached the Public Garden bench made famous in "Good Will Hunting" to remember Robin Williams.

Most quietly stood there, lost in their thoughts.

Good Will Hunting bench in Boston's Public Garden

Robin Williams fans are turning the Public Garden bench where he sat with Matt Damon in "Good Will Hunting" into a memorial.

Hedge photographed the bench around 6 this morning.

Buzzfeed interviews the first person to write something at the bench.

Esplanade suspect

State Police report this is the man suspected of attacking a woman on the Esplanade near Mass. Ave. early Friday.

Police do not think the guy is responsible for a series of attacks in 2007 and 2009.

Anyone with information about the man in these images or the incident itself is asked to call the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817.

Penny Cherubino reports that when tree experts chopped down an infected elm tree on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall recently, they left the stump behind - on purpose.

Instead of grinding out and removing the stump, contractors will use it and the root system that comes into contact with other trees on the block to dispense pest management treatment.

Ted being protected in Boston

Emily Cervone forwards a photo, taken by a co-worker, of the guard for Ted on Berkeley Street in the Back Bay this morning (can't be too careful with Johnny Depp maybe still running around all balding and everything).

Ed Coppinger notes the cop on the left is his brother, Mike (and we note that Ed is not the state rep - that's his cousin, Ed).

Tons of ducks in Boston's Public Garden

La Bibliotequetress stuck around just long enough to make sure the ducks didn't eat that guy by the bench yesterday.

Almost stuck truck at Storrow Drive entrance

GM2059 shows us a near-Storrowing around noon at a Storrow Drive entrance. Guess there's no question this time whether or not there's a warning sign in place. The State Police cruiser on the left is blocking the road so the driver can back up, of course.

UPDATE, 7:10 p.m.: The bomb squad determined the package was not suspicious but was somebody's misplaced property.

Not only is the store now shut, but Boylston Street in front of the store is closed to pedestrians and motor vehicles.

Sunset over the water from Chelsea

Jared Wickerham watched the sun set over the water in Chelsea this evening (also see his photo of the Chelsea Yacht Club).

JB Parrett, meanwhile, was also watching the sun go down, but in Boston, from Community Boating on the Esplanade:

Palestinian supporters in front of Trinity Church

Pro Palestinians and pro Israelis, their ranks for the most part separated by police, spent the early evening screaming at each other as they demanded justice from the other side.

The co-protests started on the steps of the BPL in Copley Square, moved over to Trinity Church, then went up Boylston, Charles and Beacon streets to the steps of the State House and then down onto the Common. There were far more people supporting the Palestinians than Israel.
