Lost little bear

Bear and owner a few months ago.

Sonja Alves reports:

Long, long shot but my son’s lovey is lost somewhere in Back Bay. Old tan bear with 2011 on the foot.

The bear also has a red bow on.

Boring dancers in Copley Square, Back Bay

A concerned citizen complains about the lack of action outside the BPL in Copley Square:

Trio of would-be hip-hoppers have blocked off a large part of sidewalk in front of BPL and are not even dancing. Most boring show ever.

Prudential Center lawn on Boylston Street

The new lawn. Photo by Shawn.

Microsoft, which apparently has more money than it knows what to do with, hired contractors to spend a couple days putting in a lawn on the Boylston Street side of the Pru so that its own workers can spend today giving harried city dwellers the chance to experience suburban life made even better with Microsoft products, just in case they were unaware the Pru has a larger, more permanent swath of grass on the Huntington Avenue side.

Mister Jon reports the Prudential Center mall now has a vending machine that sells just pearls.

Back Bay commuter-rail lobby

Tristan was impressed with the fresh paint at Back Bay today:

Looks like Keolis did some enspiffening at #BackBay station! Nice change.

Ed. question: How long will the paint remain white in a station that fills with diesel fumes whenever a commuter-rail train pulls in?

Lightning over Somerville

Boom! Lightning over Somerville. Photo by R.S.Y. Buchanan.

They started the Esplanade fireworks a bit early tonight - just in time for them to end and evacuate the area as a storm plowed across the area, knocking out power in at least part of Waltham and Cambridge and sending skittish dogs and children under beds.

Christopher reports:

Have to give Boston Pops organizers credit on timing. Made it from the esplanade lagoon to Kenmore JUST as the rain started.

Lined up on the Esplanade

The lawn in front of the Hatch Shell doesn't open until 5 p.m. for tonight's Fourth Third festivities, but Leslee spotted people lining up this morning to get in at the stroke of 5.

Organizers are moving the Boston Pops concert and fireworks to tomorrow night due to Arthur. The real festivities will take the place of the practice concert, which will not take place at all.

The state plans to keep Storrow Drive open for the morning commute, but to shut it at noon, so if you drive to work on Storrow tomorrow, keep that in mind.

Officials say the weather could still force a cancellation of the show and that they will probably make a go/no-go decision late afternoon.

Why not Saturday? State Police say there are issues with performers' contracts that would prohibit that.

Coddamn confusing?

A company in Washington state and Shreve, Crump and Low are battering each other with dueling legal claims over fish-shaped pitchers that make gurgling sounds.

GurglePot, which makes GurglePot Pitchers, sued Shreve's last December, accusing the chain of trying to illegally force it out of the gurgling-fish-pitcher market with an invalid trademark on its own line of Gurgling Cods. The suit was transferred from federal court in Washington to federal court in Boston last week.

Muddy River is disgusting

On Friday, Ed Hatfield photographed the Muddy River under the Bowker Overpass at Charlesgate:

That basketball has been there for at least 5 years, the soccer ball about eight and I think the baseball was a Babe Ruth homerun knocked out of Fenway Park. This is part of the reason the Charles River is getting cleaner. I think every thing that ends up in the water from JP down stream ends up here and it is blocked so it doesn't go into the Charles River basin.

Yesterday, for the second time in three months, a body was recovered from the Muddy River, just upstream from this location.

Updated, Sunday, 12 p.m.

Two Brookline residents walking down Beacon Street in the Back Bay died when a driver ran a red light at Fairfield Street around 9:15 p.m., got into a crash with two other vehicles, rolled over, then hit them, according to WCVB and Boston Police.

There was a really awful accident when we got home tonight that apparently had just happened. I went to investigate and found a flipped SUV and some shaken up people. It would seem that one person perished while others were severely injured. I also noticed a child's seat on the ground next to the flipped car which was also very concerning. It happened at Fairfield and Beacon.

Pig in the Back Bay

Nora spotted this pig in the city, on Boylston Street today, to be exact. Sure looks like Bobby the Pig, but does anybody know for sure? After all, could be Frankie or another member of our burgeoning porcine population.
