Beehive hairdo in Boston Pride parade

Aside from a brief and not very heavy spot of rain, it was a perfect day for the annual Pride parade from Copley Square to City Hall Plaza.

We stationed ourselves on Charles Street. By the time it was all over, the kidlet had built up quite the collection of beads.

Pride Sister

He's got wings!

Anne Frank sapling

With great fanfare a year ago, local and Dutch leaders gathered on the Common and dedicated a sapling from the chestnut tree that grew outside Anne Frank's attic.

Although the sapling stayed green through the summer and later developed buds, today it appears completely barren.

The note at the bottom of the photo says "Happy Birthday, Anne" and was penned to the location with a Bic stuck through it and into the ground.

Around 6:45 p.m. One suspect was quickly cornered - and a gun recovered - in the rear of a Mt. Vernon Street home near Willow; the second ran down Mt. Vernon towards Charles Street. He was described as black, 5'9" or 5'10" and stocky.

Yesterday at the state house on Beacon Hill, the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security held a public hearing on "An Act relative to the reduction of gun violence," H4121.

The Boston Fire Department reports two workers about 35 feet down a shaft where one of the Longfellow Bridge's "shakers" used to be were injured this afternoon when chutes funneling concrete down to them gave way.

Workers were placed in stokes baskets, secured and raised up to surface. Boston EMS treated and transported.

Paul Fest, 43, was arrested last week after a co-worker turned in a thumb drive he'd allegedly left in her car that contained pornographic images of children, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The DA's office adds that Fest, a facilities coordinator at the museum, is not accused of doing anything inappropriate with children at the museum or elsewhere.

Craig Silva wonders why there's a swing under the Longfellow Bridge construction site.

City Councilor Josh Zakim says he doesn't hate lawyers - he's one himself - but he says he concerned that too many professionals are taking over street-level storefronts on Charles Street and the Beacon Hill side of Cambridge Street and wants to try to slow the process.

Zakim, who represents most of Beacon Hill, wants to make professional offices a "conditional" use on the two streets. The proposal would still let the agents and brokers move in, but only after a hearing before the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Granite City truck on Storrow Drive

For the second time this morning, a truck driver blithely dismissed that "CARS ONLY" sign on the on ramp only to learn that, hey, that sign meant business. James Chisholm captured the storrowed truck shortly after 11:30 a.m.

Lost load on Storrow Drive

MassDOT posted this photo of a storrowed container that fell off the back of a truck this morning when the top hit the bottom of the Longfellow on the inbound side.

"Please remember height restrictions," MassDOT suggests to truck drivers unable to figure out what "CARS ONLY" means.

A peeved citizen complains:

Bike attached to street sign was removed due to filming location on Charles St. Completely unacceptable for someone's property and only mode of transportation to be taken when there was absolutely ZERO signs warning bicyclists that their bikes would be towed. Very disappointed that the city is bowing to stupid film scouts demands that directly impede citizens daily life.

What they're filming.

Fallen tree limbs on Charles Street, Beacon Hill

Sarah Connors surveyed the scene on Charles Street this afternoon, after the wind detached some tree limbs and gravity brought them crashing to the ground - except where cars where in the way.

Ari Ofsevit photographed a woman who might very well be a member of the Beacon Hill Historical Commission pondering whether the tree might have been on the ground long enough to qualify for historic protection (or maybe not):

I know, get out! NorthEndWaterfront.com reports ABC Family plans to film along Hanover Street starting next week for "establishing shots" for "Chasing Life," a series about "April, an ambitious young journalist" struggling to make her way in the world when she gets diagnosed with cancer.

Eleana Gudema reports she got a similar notice at her apartment on Charles Street.
