The great, golden oldie-but-keeper of a classic movie-musical, West Side Story, will be playing at the Somerville Theatre, in Davis Square, as part of the Somerville Theatre's annual 70mm film Festival, on Friday, May 18th, at 8:00 p. m., and on Saturday, May 19th, at 1:30 p. m.

Since the 70mm festival at the Somerville Theatre will be from May 17th-May 22nd, 2019, there'll also be other prominent classic films in 70mm film as well, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Dark Crystal, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, to mention a few.

Hitchhiking has always existed here in the United States. In the 1940's, soldiers who were frequently going on leave, and/or returning to their bases after h having been on leave, often hitchhiked. During the 1960's and 1970's, however, hitchhiking became even more popular, as it was cheap, easy, and, in instances, provided conversation and companion for both the hitchhiker and the driver alike, and for some people, a sense of adventure and a cheap way to see the country and/or a part or parts of the country that they'd never seen before.

The 1961 film West Side Story will be playing in selected movie theatres, nationwide, including the Greater Boston area. It will be aired on Sunday, June 24th, and on Wednesday, June 27th. Tickets can be purchased at the box offices of any of the selected movie theatres, or online using fathom events.com, fandango.com, or even on amazon.com.
