Bennett's analysis of 2013 Mayor's race so far

1. I can not believe neither Pressley and Arroyo Jr have entered the contest as of yet. If either candidate enters or if they both do, I believe that both could make the finals finishing 1st and 2nd. For instance if both Pressley and Arroyo Jr entered the Mayor's race and they both made it to the Finals, (They finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the 2011 At-Large race with both beating Connolly who finished 3rd), Whoever lost would be the number 1 contender and favorite for the 7th Congressional District if Capuano runs for Governor as expected in 2014.

2. I felt that Tito Jackson missed out on a major opportunity to grab the pole position in this race by not running. If Tito ran, he could have won.

3. There will be a huge vote that comes out in the South Western side of the city with intense campaigning by Connolly, Consalvo, and Conley. These three could split up their base bigtime allowing none of them to even make the finals.

60 Minutes Investigates: NECC Pharmacy's Lethal Medicine Kills 44 and Makes 678 Forever Sick

This is the story of how a drug compounding pharmacy NECC in Framingham Mass., under a deregulated Food and Drug Administration regime passed in 1998, is motivated by greed to expand into drug manufacturing by conspiring with clients to create fraudulent patient prescription records on a large scale yielding wild profits, 44 deaths, and 678 people severely ill with spinal and other forms of meningitis due to contamination in its lab. U.S. authorities say NECC shipped thousands of vials of fungus-tainted methylprednisolone acetate to medical facilities throughout the United States.

Casino Commonwealth

Looking beyond the filings

Since January 15, private investigators led by the Massachusetts State Police Enforcement and Investigations Bureau, have been seeking, then gathering, and finally pouring through a literal mountain of information about the 11 applicants for gaming licenses who want to own casinos and a slot parlor in the Commonwealth.
Investigators are said to be studying answers given to 300 qualifiers and that they are presently searching through 21,000 pieces of paper as well as other documents relevant to the investigations now ongoing.
To date, it is not known if investigators have uncovered any wrongdoing or enough questions about filings they requested to invalidate anyone from the application process.
When asked Friday morning if information gathered so far could lead to the invalidation of any of the present applications, Gaming Commission spokesperson Elaine Driscoll said this: "The investigations remain active and ongoing. Any discussion concerning the results of the investigations would compromise the process."
Indeed.
For now, the public has to be satisfied with the Gaming Commission's press releases and public utterances at their open meetings held throughout the month and every month until such time as licenses are awarded.

A nice local Dorchester woman reports on her Sunday afternoon drive through Southie:

Driving by the L Street bathhouse I spied a yuppie waiting for the light... So I drove through a puddle and splashed the hell out of her.

Casino Commonwealth

Massachusetts Gaming Commission Chairman Stephen Crosby told a reporter yesterday during a long and rambling interview that the commission is taking a very methodical approach toward casino development here and that he is unruffled by those who claim the commission is moving too slowly.
He once again affirmed his personal belief that if the commission sticks its head in the sand like the ostriches that the ultimate product will be just fine no matter what anyone else is doing.
Crosby said yesterday casinos here will be judged on their impact over decades, not speed.
Again, he repeated his favorite mantra – timing means nothing, time is not of the essence in developing casinos in Massachusetts.
What really matters, he seems to say, is that the absence of speed in arriving at the time when casinos are operating here is somehow going to enhance and increase revenues, new jobs, corollary capital investment and on and on.
It won’t.
Our regional competitors already operating are ramping up their businesses at our expense in an everyday effort to take advantage of the fact that there will not be an operating casino here for at least 3 more years – which is a crying shame for a state treasury that could use a massive infusion of new revenues.

64 Detour (Lost Busdriver)

Last Wednesday the 64 bus I was on had to turn right on Parsons street to detour around minor construction near the IHOP at Birmingham Parkway. However, instead of course correcting by turning left at the next available cross street... he kept going...and going.. straight....across Faneuil, across Arlington. I finally roused from my half-awake daze when I realized that he was going all the way up to Washington street, where he FINALLY made a left into tons of traffic.

Boston: A Thanksgiving Love Letter

I wrote this love letter to Boston and, since I lack my own blog these days, I'm thankful for this platform to share it with a wider audience. Thanks, Adam!

In thinking about what I'm most thankful for this year, aside from the usual family, friends, health, and good fortune (not to diminish the importance of those), I was overwhelmed remembering all the people and experiences that helped shape 2012 into one of the best years of my life, when it could easily have been counted among the worst. I could sit for hours talking about each one and still not get them all. Then I realized it all keeps coming back to one thing: this city.

Boston, I am thankful for you living up to every expectation and ideal I had of you from when I was a little girl and dreamed of living in you when I grew up. I am thankful for your varied neighborhoods, your suburbs, your parks, your streets, your rollercoaster weather patterns, your tourist traps, your hidden gems, and your breathtaking scenery. I'm thankful for your weird laws and character of a mayor and even your maddening transit system. I'm thankful for your "freedom trail" (read: bars). The TV doesn't lie. Everyone really DOES know your name sometimes.
