Boobs made Aerosmith's Tom Hamilton say Stuff

In a recent 60 Minutes expose, Aerosmith: Livin' on the Edge, Lara Logan coaxed out some harsh criticism of Steven Tyler from his band mates Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer. She then used the criticism to question Steven Tyler who was taken aback and at first a bit defense, then he returned the favor.

The Globe's warning about Boston's clumsy fiscal management

In a recent post, The Mayor's new budget -- which raises our real estate tax the maximum amount -- I asked the question: "Do residents get good value?"

Today's Globe Editorial criticizes the city's handling of fiscal issues, in particular, school renovations:

Justin Locke spent 18 years playing bass with the Boston Pops (as well
as playing in the Boston Opera, and Ballet orchestras). He worked
with such conductors as Arthur Fiedler, Henry Mancini, John Willams,
and Leonard Bernstein. Justin is now an author and speaker. In his
presentation (taken from his book “Real Men Don’t Rehearse”), he will
share a first hand (and generally hysterical) look at what it’s really

QPR: Suicide Prevention Training for Community Leaders

Oftentimes, community leaders* are sought out for support in times of crisis and are the first to become aware that someone is considering killing themselves. Attend this training to gain the skills to handle the "suicide question" and become knowledgeable about local resources for you and your community.

Register at www.suicidepreventionforleaders.eventbrite.com. Cost: $10

Due to limited seating, this 2-hour training is being offered on Monday, March 19 and Tuesday, May 8 - select your preferred date when registering.

QPR - Question, Persuade, Refer is modeled after the success of the CPR medical intervention and is based on the following concepts:

Those who most need help in a suicidal crisis are the least likely to ask for it.
Prior to making a suicide attempt, a person typically sends warning signs.
Asking "Are you thinking about killing yourself?" is a key step to preventing suicide.

This training will address:

The anxiety we feel when we are talking to someone who is suicidal.
How to specifically ask "the question".
How to persuade someone to seek help.
How to make sure they get the referral they need.

*For the purpose of this training, a community leader is anyone who regularly convenes groups of people.

Gun Crime in Boston Spikes

[float=right]IMAGE(http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u129/KameronsMamma/gun-1.jpg)[/float]In the last 3 days in Boston, 10 people have been shot and 2 have died from gun shot wounds. In all likelihood, all of these crimes were committed with illegal guns.

www.MayorsAgainstIllegalGuns.org has proposed Federal legislation that would help get illegal guns off the streets. Ask your Congressman, Senators and neighbors if they support it.

The NRA is one of the most powerful lobbies in the USA so we have a lot of work to do to get this passed. Scott Brown says he opposes Federal legislation on this issue because "it is a local issue." Mayors Tom Menino and Mike Bloomberg and mayors from 625 cities in the USA disagree with Scott Brown.

The Mayor's new budget: Do residents get good value?

The Mayor's new $2.4-Billion budget increases real estate tax 2.5% - the maximum if I'm not mistaken - even as wages for many Bostonians remain flat on the heels of the Great Recession. In addition, the MBTA has announced record increases in fares which will cost some commuters thousands more per year.

Please comment in the thread below and post links to other articles about the Mayor's budget. My questions about the City of Boston's finances and services are are follows:

Addiction Kills

I was dreaming of the past and my heart was beating fast – John Lennon...They say “ what happened in the past stays in the past” easier said than done.

Wreckage of the past. How do you put it behind you and move on in life? They say this disease will kill you. Whoever they are they speaketh the truth. At least that's what I'm told.
