Domino's, which has long dominated overnight pizza delivery in Boston could soon face new competition from Papa John's. The Boston Licensing Board tomorrow decides whether to let the Papa John's, 971 Tremont St. in Roxbury, stay open until 3 a.m.

A Papa John's manager explained the public need: Workers at nearby hotels need a place to get food when they get off work and Northeastern students need pizza late at night, especially during exams.

Nobody spoke against the proposal.

Napper Tandy's, 4187 Washington St., in Roslindale, says it's voluntarily rolled back its closing time from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m. to try to avoid a repeat of two fights that left two men bruised and bloodied around closing time on Nov. 8.

At a hearing before the Boston Licensing Board today, bar attorney - and former city licensing head - Patricia Malone said the bar had been having some issues with young men roaming Washington Street between 1 and 2 a.m. Read more.

The Boston Licensing Board this week granted an alcohol license to the upcoming Homestead Bakery and Cafe in the Linane Building at 1448 Dorchester Ave.

Homestead will run as a bakery in the morning and early afternoon, then turn into a restaurant space featuring "pop-up" menus by chefs specializing in different ethnic cuisines and a series of poetry readings, art exhibits and stand-up comedy.

Babuskha Deli, a Russian-oriented convenience store at 62 Washington St. in Brighton, goes before the Boston Licensing Board next week to request an all-alcohol package-store license.

The board's hearings start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to grant a full liquor license to Homestead Bakery and Cafe, 1448 Dorchester Ave.

Proposed manager Shiyu Wu told the board today he and his partners would run the long vacant space as a bakery between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Then, in the evenings, they would offer a series of "pop up" menus by a rotating series of chefs in different cuisines. Read more.

The Boston Licensing Board will meet next week to decide if Who's on First on Yawkey Way could have done anything to stop an attack that left a commuter-rail conductor dead and three other men with injuries as Thanksgiving began.

If the board determines the bar was negligent or somehow at least partially responsible for the shootings, it could take steps ranging from a simple warning to suspending or even revoking its liquor license. Read more.

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let the owners of the shuttered Sa Pa Vietnamese restaurant on Beacon Street in Cleveland Circle as a sit-down Asian restaurant with a bar.

Manager Frank Schillace said the previous "Chipotle-like" format, in which customers would order, cafeteria style, then find a seat, proved to be a money loser - $20,000 to $30,000 a month, he told the board at a hearing today. Read more.

The Boston City Council today approved a resolution calling for restaurants with under 30 seats outside the downtown area to let customers bring their own beer and wine if they don't have liquor licenses.

The proposal now goes to the Boston Licensing Board, which has oversight of liquor service in the city and which currently bans all BYOB. Read more.

The Boston Licensing Board yesterday rejected a request from Foodies, 230 Broadway, for a license to sell beer and wine.

The proposed license had been opposed by Al's Liquors - which had put out a protest sandwich board a few doors down.

In addition to Al's, Foodies customers can stock up on "curated craft beers and spirits" at Social Wines across from Amrheins.

Two Vietnamese restaurants on Dorchester Avenue that don't have liquor licenses face possible sanctions after police found patrons drinking beer out of tea cups last month.

Tomorrow, meanwhile, the City Council could vote on a proposal by Councilors Michelle Wu and Steve Murphy to let small restaurants in neighborhoods such as Dorchester legally let their customers bring in their own beer and wine. BYOB is currently illegal in Boston. Read more.
