Serving Ourselves, Boston's only organic farm

Five years ago, Rodrique Ngowi interviewed a worker and program director at the Boston Public Health Commission's farm on Long Island - beyond the food, the farm helped shelter residents learn work and life skills.

Why did Mayor Thomas M. Menino cross the road? To get to his new chicken farm.

The Globe reports:

The decision to allow the b.good restaurant chain to take over Boston’s only city-owned farm - at no cost, and without seeking other proposals - has enraged its former managers, who view the new arrangement as a violation of the public trust and a waste of scarce urban community farmland.

Also: City no longer committed to re-opening the bridge.

Shortly before 10 p.m., police were alerted to a woman swimming in Boston Harbor off Maverick Square. Arriving officers determined she was OK, but she refused their entreaties to swim towards them and get out of the water. Before the BPD harbor patrol could arrive, however, she decided to listen to them and swam to shore. EMS was requested for an evaluation.

Dead shark off Columbia Point in Dorchester

On Tuesday, police and Aquarium biologists investigated the remains of a basking shark in the Reserve Channel. This morning, Nichole spotted what appeared to be the same shark floating in the water off the JFK Library on Columbia Point.

In 2012, a whale carcass that washed ashore on one of the Harbor islands eventually floated out to sea and headed north, winding up on a beach in Rockport.
