Ruined SUV on Litchfield Street

Roman Lilligren reports "some crazy driver with a huge trailer sideswiped multiple cars" on Litchfield Street in Brighton yesterday. WBZ reports an Uber driver who saw the carnage happening managed to follow the pickup long enough to get its license number.

It's like March, 2020 again at the Harvard Business School, which has ordered a week-long return to remote-only education for first-year MBA students, because it seems too many future masters of the universe have been ignoring basic Covid-19 precautions - to the point where the business school made up two-thirds of new Covid-19 cases among Harvard students this month despite comprising only 9% of the total school population. The Boston Business Journal reports that four East Boston Bank branches slated to be shut as part of its takeover by Rockland Trust will instead be sold to HarborOne, a Brockton-based bank that will hire their workers and re-open the branches as its own. The deal affects only the buildings and workers; customer accounts at the current branches will still move to Rockland.

State Police report a Waltham man headed outbound on Soldiers Field Road lost control of his Suzuki motorcycle, hit a guardrail on the left side of the road and went flying off his bike, around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday. Read more.

The owner of a Brighton Center massage parlor whose workers offered customers sex for an extra fee has agreed to repay the money she got from two federal pandemic-relief programs last year because prostitution is not one of the businesses for which proprietors were allowed to claim such money. Live Boston reports that Zack Thompson, 23, of Oxford, CT, helped his girlfriend escape from a fire on Perthshire Road in Brighton on Monday, then succumbed to the fire.

Firefighters used a ground ladder to rescue the girlfriend, after she was thrown out of a window onto a small roof protruding from the second floor by her boyfriend. She was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries.

The Heights reports BC has decided that a high vaccination rate among both students and faculty and a desire to return to "a normal teaching environment," but that some 300 professors signed a letter respectfully suggesting that's dumb. Masks are required in other indoor spaces on campus.

Shortly before 5 p.m., DB Reiff urged motorists to avoid Lake Street in Brighton on account of how several manholes along the street caught fire around the same time. Utility crews had been working in the area, she reports.

Motorcyclists in Cleveland Circle

Danielle Johns was in Cleveland Circle around noon when hundreds of motorcyclists roared down Chestnut Hill Avenue and onto Beacon Street for the ninth annual Boston Motorcycle Marathon Ride, which benefits the Jimmy Fund.
