Anyone else encounter door-to-door solicitors for electricity service in Brighton? Talked to them yesterday. I don't know if they're legitimate, but they were pretty keen on seeing my electric bill and left once it was established that it's online and I couldn't remember my password. They left me with a business card with no business name or website, a gmail address, and an address that didn't appear on GMaps to be a permanent office. No website, pamphlets or info to review. Heads up, could be one of those scams where they want to see your bill to get enough info to switch you over.

WBZ reports workers turned on fountains at the Lee and Mather schools in Dorchester, the Curley school in Jamaica Plain and Another Course to College in Brighton by mistake and that students may have drunk from them before they were shut off again because of elevated lead levels.

Parents are not amused:

[A BPS administrator] met with staff on January 29th to discuss the water situation. But didn’t notify school families until February 12th. In addition, the families were told not to worry, there were no health risks associated with the elevated levels. BPS was just being proactive by turning off those fountains. If she knew about the issues at the Mather, why did she not include it in last week’s count of schools impacted by elevated levels of lead.

Vox reports on a bill by state Rep. Kevin Honan (D-Brighton) that would require the state's sprawlburgs to set aside at least 1.5% of their buildable land for multi-family buildings.

Honan wants to amend the law that developers can use for projects denser than allowed by local zoning if less than 10% of a town's housing stock is not considered affordable. Towns would be compensated for the added costs of schoolrooms for extra kids such buildings could mean.

Note to Vox: We have a House of Representatives, not a General Assembly.

Theresa Gallagher forwards this photo from her home surveillance system:

At almost 7 Sunday morning on Faneuil Street, this man was looking into my first floor window and tried to open 2 of my basement windows.

If he looks familiar, of course, you know the three digits to hit on your phone.
