People lined up for test kits in Brighton

Update: All gone in about 15 minutes.

There aren't normally lines outside BPL branches, but Jonathan Kamens reports the line outside the Brighton BPL branch just before 10 a.m. stretched past the neighboring courthouse and down Chestnut Hill Avenue this morning, as people lined up for a chance to get one of those free rapid test kits the city announced yesterday it would be distributing through select libraries and community centers.

State Police report a Randolph man speeding down Soldiers Field Road slalomed onto Leo Birmingham Parkway in Brighton, where he ran a red light at Western Avenue and slammed into a car, killing its driver.

Two-car crash on the Green Line

Sundaram had a ringside seat to watch the aftermath of a two-car crash right atop the B Line tracks at Strathmore Road shortly before 3 p.m. The crashed caused delays of up to 20 minutes on the line, although the T now reports service is back to normal.

IQHQ, a California company that specializes in building life-sciences buildings, is proposing to build three more on a site at 155 North Beacon St. in Brighton now occupied by "an older, non-descript building, nearing the end of its useful life" - and the Sound Museum recording studio. Read more.

Green Line B Branch Station Consolidation Announcement

WBZ reports the end of weekend bus diversions on the B Line as the T this morning opened its new Babcock Street and Amory Street stops, which replace four smaller stops along Commonwealth Avenue. The work finished several months ahead of schedule.

State Police report an 18-year-old died on the Massachusetts Turnpike inbound early this morning after a crash in which he first veered to the left and hit the Jersey barriers along the high speed lane in his 2019 Civic, then bounced off the guard rails along the right side before coming to a halt against more Jersey barriers along the high-speed lane.

"Speed is believed to be a contributing factor" in the crash, in which Joseph Fournier, 18, of Burlington died around 1:40 a.m., State Police say.

Jabari Bird today admitted he repeatedly attacked his girlfriend in his Brighton apartment over a four-hour period one night in 2018, after which a judge continued his case without a finding for two years, which means the criminal charges will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble during that period.
