Storm knocks out service in Brookline, Roslindale, no doubt points inbetween, but how can you report if your Internet is broken and you don't have, oh, a 'Net-enabled smartphone?

Dennis Fox held a sign in support of Gaza in Coolidge Corner yesterday:

... I had two decent conversations with supporters of Israel that went beyond sloganeering, until in both cases they had enough and moved away. I don't believe such conversations will change many minds, and I doubt that changing individual minds will change Israeli policy, but it was more pleasant than mutual screaming.

One of my fellow protestors asked me what I thought made sense to do. I didn't have a good answer.

Miss Kelly, meanwhile, notes a pro-Gaza rally at 5 this afternoon in front of the Israeli consulate in Park Plaza, urges Israeli supporters to attend:

... Please go and show your support for Israel tomorrow. Don't let the Hamas-supporting, Muslim Brotherhood-backed Boston Muslim American Society get all the press coverage.

I live across the street from the Stop n' Shop on Harvard Street in Brookline and yesterday around 8 pm witnessed the strangest thing! There was a white SUV cruising around the parking lot with what appeared to be a menorah (with 2 lit candles) mounted on its roof and what I suspect was Hanukuah/Hebrew music blaring from some speakers.

Did anyone else see this? It was quite the automotive display of holiday spirit!

I was on my way to work on the C line today when the trolley stopped unexpectedly (just before Hawes Street, I think). There was a car stuck on the tracks, and a Brookline Police car parked in the street. The T driver said "As you can see, this woman's stuck on the tracks, and the sooner she gets off the sooner we get going again..." Several guys took the hint and got off the train and pushed her car back into the street. I got off the train and took a couple of photos (hey, I was wearing a skirt; it's hard to push cars in a skirt).

Brookline residents are fighting back against invasive video surveillance, but David B. Goldstein, police chief of Winthrop, can't understand why- and in standard security theater style:

"This is some of the price all of us to have pay for living in a free society, but a threatened society,"

Two years ago, the Punchdrunk theatrical company created a highly unusual production of Faust in an abandoned five-story London warehouse.

Are they bringing it to Boston? Looks that way, based on these extensive sets of Flickr photos of the abandoned Circle Cinemas. [A hat-tip to "DBrenson/br91975" at CinemaTreasures for pointing out the photo sets.]

Michael Burstein is curious about a large wooden box with windows and aluminum-lined interior walls holding a log that appeared on the island on Beacon Street between Pleasant and Waldo streets today:

... If I had to guess, I'd say someone is doing an experiment with using sunlight to set the log aflame. But who is doing this, and why? ...

Somebody with a grudge against Town Meeting is sending post cards to Town Meeting members demanding they show up at Town Meeting this week or else he or she will publicize their attendance records, Wicked Local Brookline reports.

Town Meeting attendance records are already public and whoever is sending the cards is doing so anonymously.

Stop the Brookline thugs picking on BU students!

... I suggest the [BU] administration to either make an effort to buy the property or put pressure on the Brookline Housing Authority to monitor the tenets it accepts to 51-85 Egmont St. BU students who live in the Ashford/Gardner area they face a consistent problem every weekend with residents from the Egmont housing projects who come to the area for parties. Police can only take action after fights or vandalism; a greater power needs to step in to keep this from ever happening. ...

It means a lot coming from a student who admits he got his jaw broken at an out-of-control party he threw:

Granted, you put yourself at risk by throwing parties that you lose control of, but still. I'm not Tupac, I'm no Biggy, I'm a 20-year-old college student who pays 50 grand a year to go to BU. I should not be in these situations.
