The town of Brookline announced today that the firefighter whose temperature spike sparked the shutdown of Station 5 on Babcock Street has tested positive for Covid-19 and that two other firefighters at the station "have developed symptoms and are awaiting their test results." Read more.

The Brookline Fire Department announced tonight it's temporarily shut Station 5, on Babcock Street, after a required shift-change temperature check this morning showed one firefighter was running a slight temperature - which then increased over the course of the day.

Brookline officials today banned lines of more than 10 people at restaurants and bars - but has lifted its ban on styrofoam containers, to help restaurants speed up preparation of takeout and delivery orders - as part of a town declaration of a state of emergency due to Covid-19. Read more.

The Independent Film Festival Boston, scheduled to unspool April 22-29 at the Somerville, Brattle, and Coolidge Corner theatres, will be postponed to unspecified future dates. The theatres themselves remain open for now, and IFFB urges moviegoers to patronize them.

ArtsEmerson, operator of the Cutler Majestic and Paramount theatres, is suspending all of its programming through at least the end of March, including the current show Plata Quemada and the upcoming Parable of the Sower.

Nine Orthodox congregations in the Boston area are telling members they are shutting their buildings at 3 p.m. - and are urging congregants not to form minyans in people's homes, since that would defeat the goal of trying to keep people apart through social distancing. Read more.

The Daily Free Press reports the chain is opening an outlet at 872 Commonwealth Ave. OK, that's really BUville, but it's on the Brookline side of the line near Amory Street, so Brookline will soon have 50% of the number of Taco Bells that Boston has, which is two (one downtown and one in West Roxbury).

Boston Police this afternoon released some preliminary information on the morning incident that ended with a Brigham and Women's Hospital valet wounded, the suspect dead, the hospital locked down and several cars damaged in a crash that shut the westbound side of Rte. 9 in Brookline. Read more.

A shooting on Fenwood Road outside a Brigham and Women's building shortly after 9 a.m. resulted in a chase that ended with a car crash outside the Star Market on Rte. 9 in Newton and a suspect taken away in critical condition. Read more.

No salsa

Evidence comes from this Brookline supermarket, where Nomi Burstein shows us the paucity of salsa around 3:40 p.m. (also from the parking lot of the Roche Bros. in West Roxbury, which was even more crowded than usual around the same time, no, really, it was so crowded at least one local editor and his wife just gave up and drove to the Dedham Stop & Shop).
