The MBTA said yesterday it's identified the overhead power-line issues that have led to a recent spate of dead trolleys from the new Green Line Extension to the ancient tracks near Copley and on Beacon Street. The T also said it's working to keep them from happening again. Read more.

Harvard University today sued its insurance broker, which it says is to blame for the failure to notify one of its legal insurers in time to get reimbursed for all the legal help it needed in a nine-year, ultimately unsuccessful, effort to fend off a lawsuit - and still ongoing federal investigation - involving its affirmative-action policies for student admissions. WBZ reports that well over half the tracks on the Green Line Extension will have to be rebuilt - and that GM Phil Eng says previous management knew about the problem as early as 2021, but decided not to stop the already frequently delayed construction to fix the problem.

Cambridge Day reports MIT is fighting Eversource over underground power cables the utility wants to install beneath MIT as part of its plans for a new Binney Street substation. In filings with the state, MIT goes so far as to say the work could kill the school, because it could disrupt the arteries that radiate out from the school's "heart" - a central utility plant that feeds vital electricity, steam and water across the campus.

Spinorama captured the scene on Memorial Drive this morning. The one saving grace, at least for the driver, if not storrowing fans, is that he was able to do a backup of shame rather than watch as a crew drags off what remains of his mangled, newly roofless truck.

The Cambridge Fire Department reports firefighters responded to a homeless encampment underneath the BU Bridge for a fire that sent thick black smoke into the air - and forcing firefighters to back away after multiple propane tanks exploded. Read more.

The leaders of First Church in Cambridge plan to take down the "golden cockerel" weathervane that has topped the church spire since 1873 for repairs. But in discussions set to begin this Sunday, parishioners will consider whether the church should then put the historic rooster back atop the spire - or sell it. Read more.

The Globe reports on new wicked slooooow zones on the Green Line Extension, in particular in spots where the rails have gotten slightly closer to each other, an issue that left at least one expert with 40 years of experience scratching his head because rails in use generally widen in distance, not narrow.

Greg Cook reports going on a bat-listening tour at Mount Auburn Cemetery the other day. Christopher Richardson, a bat biologist at Boston University, led a group of would-be bat listeners at dusk - as part of a long-term project to study both the bats and the role of cemeteries as urban bat sanctuaries.
