MIT News reports an MIT-designed device, known as the Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment, or MOXIE, has been generating oxygen on Mars since April, 2021, about two months after it landed there with the Perseverance rover.

An off-duty Cambridge police officer was arrested on an OUI charge early this morning after he drove into three motorcyclists stopped at a light on Broadway in Cambridge, sending two to the hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries, Cambridge Police report. Read more.

Cambridge Day reports Cambridge will be shutting off the water from its reservoir out by 128 on Tuesday for several months because it could take that long to acquire and install better filters to reduce what has become a rising amount of nasty PFAS in Cambridge's supply. In contrast, MWRA water, which Bostonians and other greater-Boston-area residents drink, has shown little to no PFAS.

Covid-19 vaccine maker Moderna, founded in Cambridge in 2010, this morning sued Pfizer, which has research facilities here, for patent infringement, alleging Pfizer and its German partner copied its patented mRNA technology to make their competing vaccine. Read more.

Pfizer, which has research and vaccine manufacturing facilities in Cambridge and Andover, and BioNTech, a German drug company with an office in Cambridge, are asking a federal judge to declare the recipe for their Covid-19 vaccine doesn't infringe on any patents held by CureVac, a German company with an office on Fort Point Channel that tried and failed to develop a marketable Covid-19 vaccine. The MBTA is reporting a deceased Red Line train at Kendall/MIT means delays of up to 20 minutes all up and down the line - in fact, they say trains might just stand by at stations, no doubt with their doors open to let out any cool air they might have.
