Cambridge Day reports on an effort by two city councilors to make it a tad easier for local artists to qualify for affordable housing now that they've been priced out of the city. Other councilors, however, wondered why artists should get precedence when other people, such as teachers and firefighters, can't afford to live in Cambridge, either.

WBUR reports a federal muckymuck says simpler, less expensive plans for the Green Line Extension seem OK with her.

Federal approval is vital since without it, we'll lose roughly $1 billion in money for the extension. Of course, the state is still playing the Dread Pirate Roberts role - "Good night, Green Line Extension, good work, sleep well, I'll most likely kill you in the morning."

UPDATE: State Police report the man, from Allston, was pulled out of the water around 8 a.m. and rushed to Mt. Auburn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

State Police report crews are searching the Charles River near the Weeks Footbridge for a man witnesses say jumped into the river shortly before 7 a.m. and then did not surface.

State public-health officials have released the itinerary of a European visitor to the Boston area earlier this month and say anybody who might have been in the same area at the same time as this person might want to check with their health-care provider because that person came down with measles.

The locations include the Cambridgeside Galleria on the afternoon of May 1, the 1 bus that morning and the Green Line later that afternoon and the Star Market at the Pru and the Nespresso on Newbury Street on the afternoon of May 4. Read more.

Bicycle and truck crash in Cambridge

Pat Miguel Tomaino photographed the remains of a crash at Mass. Ave. and Sidney Street this morning between the driver of a beer truck turning right and a woman on a bicycle. The Globe reports the woman suffered leg injuries.

MBTA and MassDOT staff today presented plans for a $2.3-billion Green Line Extension that would keep the originally planned seven stations but would eliminate amenities such as fully enclosed waiting rooms, escalators and, at several stations, elevators and stairs. Read more.

A man who robbed the Cambridge Savings Bank at 630 Mass. Ave. in Central Square around noon tried escaping on the Red Line.
