Cambridge Police report on the water-main break at JFK and Mt. Auburn streets this morning:

Inbound traffic to Harvard Square from Memorial Drive will be closed. Traffic coming east from Mt. Auburn Street will be diverted to Eliot to JFK Street outbound to Memorial Drive. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area during the AM commute and likely through the weekend.

Without water, some businesses have shut.

A man who'd spent 20 years living as a farmer in a Jamaican hamlet is back in Massachusetts today to face charges he tried to kill his ex-girlfriend in Cambridge in 1994 by stabbing her and slashing her neck after breaking into her apartment, State Police report. Read more.

Delays on the Red Line quickly went to "severe" when the Cambridge Fire Department ordered service halted to determine why several people came out of an inbound train coughing. After about ten minutes, firefighters could find nothing wrong and let service resume.

Ironically, just this morning, Transit Police and several other agencies held an exercise at the T's emergency training center on how to deal with a chemical release in a subway station.

A Bedford man was charged with attacking two women on Mass. Ave. near Harvard Square around 7:20 p.m. yesterday, Cambridge Police report. Read more.

DCR, MassDOT and State Police say that since 2007, there have been 25 recorded storrowings on Storrow and Memorial drives and Soldiers Field Road on weekends during which students flow into and out of the city. Read more.

It's like regular yoga, except with face paint and glow sticks. WBUR reports.

Like most yoga classes, this one ends with everyone in corpse poses - releasing their thoughts and stresses with deep breathing and mediation. But there’s a twist, as glitter confetti drops from above.

Swimming in the Charles River

The Charles River Watershed Association reports the Charles from the Weld boathouse to the dam now has high enough levels of toxic cyanobacteria to post warnings against coming into contact with river water - and that means no swimming, fishing or falling in the river. That goes double for dogs, who could pick up toxic residue in walks on the river banks and then lick it off their fur. Read more.

The TD Bank branch at 1270 Mass. Ave. (corner of Plympton) was held up around 10 a.m. by a black male in his late 20s, wearing a Redskins cap and a white-collared shirt. He fled down Plympton. Not long after, police halted a Red Line train at Central to search for him.
