Sk8tr Boi and the MBTA cop

MassCops is a site where Massachusetts police officers exchange advice and stories. But it also has an Ask a Cop forum, where members of the public can ask about police work.

Word of advice: If you're a skater dude asking if an MBTA "train cop" has the right to tell you and your buddy to stop skating at the Lakeville/Middleboro commuter-rail station late at night or face arrest, you might want to think first before supplying specific info, such as the exact date and time this happened. Because one of the respondents just might be the cop who told you to scram, and he might fill in some of the details you left out of your original post.

The officers response was priceless indeed.

However, I can't help but cringe at some of the other responses on that thread. I'm a big supporter of police and often find myself defending them during conversation. But some of the other responses in that thread, and some other threads in the "Ask a Cop" section, are downright inapproprate and unbecoming. It's one thing to attempt to answer a public question in a serious, straightforward manner, but some of those responses are openly mocking this kids personal appearance/sexual orientation. If more members of the general public catch wind of this site, it could become a source of embarassment to police officers and serve to undermine their good work.

The Boston area media outlets, Gatehouse Media, Boston Globe and Herald, and several other radio/tv newsies, routinely monitor Masscops for any dirt and drivel they can conjure up.

Unbecoming of whom? If you check, you will see there is no requirement to actually be a cop in order to post on the site--the skateboarder is plain proof of that.

And the media monitoring is nothing new. Some of those "Ask-a-cop" questions appear to be reporters actively looking for dirt.
