Blog reaction to the gay-marriage vote

Shelley: It is yet another great day to live in Massachusetts!

Rogue Slayer Law Student: Ding-dong, the amendment's dead. Long live marriage equality!

Photos from the State House.

Hub Politics: This is not the end:

... The gay lobby may have won a victory today, but the people will not give up to have their voices heard. The shameful and unethical behavior of our Governor and House Speaker will not be ignored. The voters of Massachusetts should have the right to vote on this issue. ...

Scott Hellman looks at the impact on the Romney and McCain campaigns.

Papel-Blog shows how much of a Massachusetts issue this was.

David Bernstein examines why even Southie's state rep voted against the ballot question:

... Southie is not what it used to be. There are an awful lot of young people there -- Irish and not -- who are for equality. ...

Bernstein also looks at who wins and loses with the vote. So does the Outraged Liberal.

Scott Allen Miller: A win/win.

Emily2: Bravo to Massachusetts!

Carpundit will take the win:

... I hate this state sometimes. I hate the taxes. I hate the Mass Pike. I hate the corruption. But I love the fact that we told the "family values" people, and especially Ronald Crews, to go fuck themselves.

Dan Kennedy: This is great news for the state, and, I hope, the end for the anti-marriage forces.

Save WRKO says the vote shows why Boston needs a strong conservative talk-show station:

... Nearly 200,000 Bay State citizens signed a petition merely asking for a vote on the gay marriage issue. The corrupt-o-crats on Beacon Hill have denied the people that opportunity. ...

Alison Rose: I am truly proud to be a citizen of this great commonwealth today.

Michael Femia: Thanks, Legislature. I can remain proud that this is my home state.

Bri: WOO-HOO!

The Mick: Yay for gay!

Charley on the MTA: Today's a great day in Massachusetts.

Robert David Sullivan: Another long-running drama is cancelled:

Just a few days after The Sopranos ended, Massachusetts state legislators cancelled Can Heather Have Two Mommies? at the end of its fourth season. No longer can I spend my lunch hour gawking at gay-marriage opponents and cruising-- er, encouraging those on the other side of Beacon Street in front of the State House. There were some exciting moments over the years, but the series had long overstayed its welcome. Great finale, though, even if this plot twist proved unnecessary.

John: Take that, bitches!

Shawn: Congratulations to Massachusetts for shutting down the bigots.

Third Decade: To the 151 legislators who kept gay marriages legal and Massachusetts at the forefront of progressive social politics, thank you.

David: A glorious victory.

200,000? HA!

Didn't we find out almost 1/2 the signatures collected by out of state, hired by the hour opportunists, were in fact void and illegal? Funny, I didn't know Count Chocula was against gay marriage!

You don't like it, get communities to vote in reps that will support bigotry, but good luck. We vote for a legislature that promotes the values of the commonwealth, not bigotry, and they have spoken for the people. In 2008 if there's a large turnover on beacon hill, then maybe I might give this guy a foot, but otherwise STFU, you're in the minority or a minority and government is working just fine without your Rush Propaganda.
