Laquidara: Radio sucks today

Would only come back to radio if technology allowed for live podcasting:

So good to hear his voice again! I used to listen to him every morning and get to meet him as his going-away party several years back. He looks great! Hawaii really agrees with him, apparently.

it's still programmed on my car radio. everytime i click on they are playing a jason mraz song or kelly clarkson. i still dont get it. why did BCN have to die? did we really need mix 104? couldnt mix go away and BCN survive in this market? i like the new sports talk but at the cost of a legendary rock station?

BCN had sucked for years before they finally put it out of its misery.

i dont disagree that it was pretty lame for a long time but is mix 104 better? at least there was a chance of hearing something cool on bcn.

I barely register that there are any radio stations at all above 92MHz. Why waste my time on "a chance of hearing something cool" when there's MBR, ERS and ZBC playing music I actually like?

It's called Shoutcast/Icecast and is simply MP3 streaming. It can be done live. The problem is that we're not quite there with regards to ubiquitous internet access. A smart/PDA phone, inline connection to a stereo, and good cell coverage will give you access to live streaming which one could call "live podcasting." Technology is already there, the audience is not.

I used to do live music shows out of my apartment in Allston... in 1999.

I was listening to a tape of the Jerry Williams farewell show for WRKO, a few months before his death. The Globe's Alex Beam called in and asked Jerry why he didn't like NPR. "They're too prissy," the Dean said. "Like WBCN in the old days" (when they were classical).
Alex then asked Jerry what he thought of Charles Laquidara.
Jerry replied, "I like him--he's good."

You wouldn't have expected Jerry to be into a show like
Chuck's, but there you go: the Dean (he's not boring!) liked Charles!

How can I get ahold of Chuck.
I was huge BCN and Big Mattress fan.. even had a date with one of their DJ's Maxanne....what a dish and what a great station.
