Buttery burglary suspect proves not so slippery

Boston Police report arresting a one-man crime spree who, they charge, broke into two businesses in the South End and the Back Bay early this morning and then tried to sell some of his ill-gotten goods at a Back Bay convenience store.

Police say Juan Maddox, 44, started his night around 2:45 a.m. at the Buttery, 312 Shawmut Ave., where he made off with a computer, a coffee maker and a label maker, despite having apparently injured himself in the process of breaking into a door.

About an hour later, police say, an alarm started sounding inside Niketown, 200 Newbury St. Officers established a perimeter, but found nobody suspicious. An arriving store employee said a number of jackets were missing - some of which police found not far away in front of the 7-Eleven at 261 Dartmouth St.:

Officers spoke with employees of the store who stated, several minutes earlier, an unknown male entered the store and attempted to sell Nike brand clothing. Officers broadcast a description of the suspect who fled on foot toward Exeter Street/ Huntington Avenue.

While canvasing the area, at about 4:30am, officers observed several males at W. Newton Street and St. Botolph Street (7-11 Store), who were in possession of what appeared to be stolen Nike clothing with tags still attached. The males stated to officers they found the jackets in the area of Blackwood Street and St. Botolph Street near a bicycle. Officers seized the bicycle from the scene.

Finally, 15 minutes later, Northeastern University Police found a guy matching witnesses' descriptions at Tremont and Northampton, "wearing a yellow Nike Live Strong sweatshirt and carrying several Nike items." Boston Police officers arrived and arrested Maddox on charges of breaking and entering into a building, larceny over $250, receiving stolen property and malicious destruction of property.

Innocent, etc.

One year probation and a $1,000 fine to be garnished from his source of revenue, reduced to $500 if he receives a vasectomy, so as not to pass his clear idiocy on to another generation.
