DEATH by firearm.

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 11 to 7 to make gun trafficking a federal crime.

Gun trafficking is how illegal guns flow from states with weak gun laws to states with strong gun laws.

The eleven yes votes were 10 Democrats and Chuck Grassley. The 7 no votes were

Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Jeff Sessions(R-AL)
Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Michael Lee (R-UT)
Ted Cruz (R-TX)
Jeff Flake (R-AZ)

Voted Yes on Gun Trafficking Law

Patrick Leahy (D-VT)
Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)
Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
Dick Durbin (D-IL)
Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
Amy Globchar (D-MN)
Al Franken (D-MN)
Chris Coons (D-DE)
Richard Blumnethal (D-CT)
Mazie Hirono (D-HI)

Republicans are defending the profits of gun manufacturers from illegal guns without regard to how trafficked guns are used in crime and to commit murder. The NRA works for gun manufacturers, not members. Members widely support advancing gun trafficking law and universal background checks.

I say that because anytime any legislation that actually might benefit Americans comes up, all you have to do is paste those names into your comment.

Just add Kelly Ayotte and you'll be all set!

I have no doubt there are a group of extremists in government who want to burn it to the ground. That's one of the reasons the tea party doesn't care if they elect unqualified, inexperienced representatives. They aren't they to make good policy. They're there to destroy government.

Robert Reich thinks so, too.

They voted NO because gun trafficking is ALREADY A FEDERAL CRIME. Like background checks existing laws aren't enforced enough!

Law enforcement agencies have long sought such legislation, saying current law – which targets only people making false statements to federally registered gun dealers – is too narrow and penalties are too paltry to deter gun trafficking and straw purchases.

"In New York, nine out of 10 guns used in crimes are criminally trafficked, illegal weapons,” said Gillibrand, a Democrat who has been proposing federal gun-trafficking legislation since 2009, her first year in the Senate. “This bill is the best tool to begin to crack down on that.”

Because the strict Massachusetts laws banning murder and carrying a firearm without a license aren't enough of a deterrent, we should enact another federal law. That'll teach them. Brilliant!

6 out of 10 illegal guns seized by Boston Police last year were trafficked to Boston from out of state, mostly from Tennessee and Virginia.

This law makes that illegal whether the guns are sourced from federal registered gun dealers or anyone else. The penalties are severe, 15 years in jail.

Most guns used to commit a crime are stolen. If responsible gun owners would lock up there guns there would be fewer guns available to criminals.

is...Ridiculous...Care to state your sources?

There is no such thing as an illegal gun factory*. ALL guns used in crimes were once legal guns. And unless they were stolen from the factory, which would not be a large proportion, most were either passed into the hands of criminals through the negligence or culpability of legitimate gun owners.

Is there a reason BPD deleted this from their website...?

I was hoping to look for the victim ID. I guess we need to talk about gun laws, but I am more worried about my neighborhood

It turned out to be self inflicted. The BPD post never did name the victim.
