Florida North: Sinkhole shuts Washington Street in Codman Square

UPDATE, 6 p.m. Boston Police tweet the street is open again.

Police have blocked off Washington Street between Talbot Avenue and Aspinwall Road due to a sinkhole that erupted this morning and which now consists of a cavern roughly half the width of the road. The city Department of Public Works took over oversight of the hole and its eventual filling in after the Boston Water and Sewer Commission determined the rapidly spreading void was not due to any of its pipes or manholes. No bedrooms have yet to disappear down the hole.
