As one North Shore Hell's Angel sent away for 21 years, more arrested, authorities say

Even as federal authorities were announcing a 21-year prison sentence for the sergeant-at-arms for the Hell's Angels chapter in Lynn for illegal weapons possession, State Police were busy rounding up what they said were other members of the Hells Angels and another North Shore motorcycle gang.

Eric Franco, 38, got the lengthy sentence in part because of his past record, which includes three convictions for assault and battery by a dangerous weapon, as well as convictions for indecent assault and battery, failure to register as a sex offender, breaking and entering at night with intent to commit a felony, and conspiracy to violate the controlled substances act. Oh, and there was also the matter of his conviction in Arkansas for his role in beating and stabbing members of a rival gang.

Separately, State Police announced the arrest today of men in Lynn, Danvers and Gloucester for their participation in an unspecified attack on one man in the Newburyport area that involved "kidnapping, mayhem, and extortion."

Sean Barr, 47, and Marc Eliason, of Lynn are alleged members of the Hells Angels, while Nikolis Avelis, 54, of Gloucester, and Brian Weymouth, 40, of Danvers, are alleged members of the Red Devils club. "The Hell's Angels and Red Devils clubs are friendly with each other," State Police said in a statement.

Two more suspects remain at large.

Innocent, etc.

An appropriate sentence, not a slap on the wrist? Where does that judge think he is, Texas?

indicted for "mayhem".

"MAYHEM, crimes. The act of unlawfully and violently depriving another of the use of such of his members as may render him less able in fighting either to defend himself or annoy his adversary; and therefore the cutting or disabling, or weakening a man's hand or finger, or striking out his eye or foretooth, or depriving him of those parts the loss of which abates his courage, are held to be mayhems. But cutting off the ear or nose or the like, are not held to be mayhems at common law. 4 Bl. Com. 205. "

"Men of Mayhem" indeed....
