Man who shot Pop Warner coach in 2007 charged with shooting last week

Daquarry Norman, 21, who shot a Pop Warner football coach in 2007 - when he was 15 - is charged with shooting a man on Fenno Street in Roxbury on Friday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Also charged for the shooting: Tabari Muhammad, 21, who has a 2008 conviction for armed robbery in Florida, the DA's office says.

At their arraignment earlier this week, Roxbury District Court Judge David Weingarten set bail for each at $100,000. Muhammad will remain behind bars even if he makes bail, however, because Weingarten revoked his bail on a pending stolen-property charge.

According to prosecutors, the two shot a man at 8 Fenno St. around 6 p.m. on Friday, then ran as police arrived. A cop collared Norman on Rockland Street. Muhammad, however, entered a Rockland Street apartment, to which he locked the door and holed up:

A SWAT team and crisis negotiator responded to the scene and searched 76 and 74 Rockland St. Muhammad was found by a K9 unit hiding inside a small crawl space of 74 Rockland St., prosecutors said. In the process of forcing his way into the crawl space, Muhammad allegedly damaged a sewer pipe and his clothing was contaminated by the sewage.

According to the DA's office:

At the age of 15, Norman shot and wounded a Pop Warner football coach in front of a group of 10-year-old players. The 2007 shooting was preceded by a brief encounter between Norman and the victim in which the victim’s vehicle clipped Norman’s unleashed pit bull. Though Norman was a juvenile at the time, Conley’s office indicted him under the state’s youthful offender statute, exposing him to the same penalties as an adult and opening his case to the public. He was sentenced to five years in state prison.

Innocent, etc.

While the city is throwing that pile of garbage in the south end into the back of the truck, maybe they could pick up this trash too.

Sad that people will instinctually respond with, "We need tougher gun laws!". MA already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. We need criminals who shoot people to stop being released so quickly! How about repercussions of more than 5 years for these crimes. I'll expect to read about him again before he's even 30.
