The flying angels of the North End

North End feasts always have a heavy statue of the weekend's saint hoisted around the neighborhood by boisterous, singing, brawny men. The Fisherman's Feast adds girls dressed as angels, who "fly" over the procession. Greg Cook interviewed former angels and took in the procession this past weekend.

I love the North End. Especially the Italian festivals. Growing up outside NY, we always thought San Gennaro in Little Italy was the pinnacle of Italian-American feasts. Then I came to Boston. The Fisherman's Feast and Saint Anthony's in the North End are much more enjoyable. Food is better, music is better, and the crowds aren't insane like in NY's Little Italy.
