SUV careens into house in Mattapan

SUV in a Mattapan house

The Boston Fire Department reports a family at 6 W. Main St. was forced to find another place to stay tonight after a driver managed to put a Nissan Murano into their townhouse around 6:30 p.m.

There were no injuries, but the building sustained structural damage from the collision - firefighters had to shore up the front wall before a tow truck could pull the vehicle out.

Can we just say that this schmuck hadn't even bothered to clean off his car before driving, it is remarkable that this is the only accident that he caused (that we know of - tonight). I would be pleased to learn that the BPD cited him for that as well (a $200 added fine) as it goes all too often unenforced.

The picture doesn't indicate how long after the drive-through attempt it was taken, so it's possible the snow settled on the car as the firefighters were trying to figure out how to get it out without the front of the building collapsing.

If it was any time after about 6pm, that's about 15-20 minutes worth of snow at most. As you can see here, the front of the vehicle is clear: http://twitpic.com/dsz878

BTW, how can we be sure that they aren't visitors to the neighborhood just parking wherever they want? I mean, it is a snow emergency and all ...

Steve MacDonald at BFD reports the photo was taken around 8:30 p.m., or about two hours after the crash, so plenty of time for snow to accumulate on the embedded vehicle.

All the commercials for SUV's and Pickups show them just flying through fields full of snow without a problem!

Sorry for stating the obvious, 4WD does nothing for stopping.
