New Harvard Avenue shop betting late-night revelers will want some healthy fruit snacks

Sweet Kingdom, which plans to sell only "healthy" desserts made of fruits and light sugar, won approval today to stay open until 2 a.m. at 145 Harvard Ave.

At a hearing Wednesday, Boston Licensing Board Chairwoman Nicole Murati Ferrer expressed surprise that a dessert place would seek to stay open that late.

Manager Yu Dong and attorney Christopher Coleman, however, said they're counting on business from people getting out of the area's bars, for whom the "all healthy desserts" made with organic fruits and light sugar would prove a welcome respite from the more traditional fat-saturated and heavy-sugar laden comestibles typically available at that time.

Sweet Kingdom will replace the shuttered Unique Chinese-food take-out place.

Can we get some licensing people that actually do something other than work 9-5 and then go directly home, making sure not to experience anything other than what they have always done.

Canned or bottled Guava and Mango juices are great for hydrating a delicate stomach while providing vitamins. Gatorade is also great. Enzymes in the fresh versions are too harsh. Carbohydrates from grain and B vitamins (ie pizza) are also a classic.
