Big Dig on upskirting

The Dig itself finds its visual comment on the last week's upskirting news to be bad-ass cover art.

Jess Critcher begs to differ:

Ugh what's up with @DigBoston's creepy cover art? #upskirt + #mbta is gross & scary, not "bad ass."

This is a real problem! Please don't trivialize #streetharassment

God damn it people, settle down. No wait, actually get all riled up about it and do exactly what the Dig wants.

Huh, you'd think someone that describes them self as a, "writer, feminist, atheist, nerd. Tattooed Bohemian goddess. Awkward duck. Madly in love with @JustCritch. Co-Organizer @SoJust," wouldn't be so easily offended.

I also wonder how she can be an "atheist" and a "goddess" at the same time. Does that mean she believes that she's a goddess who nobody believes in?

One should never make fun of someone who speaks such truth to power with her eloquent use of hashtags.

If you're gonna upskirt a guy playing the bagpipes, you're likely to get kilt.

Another day, another completely baseless show of outrage. When did we lose our thick skin?

up
Voting closed 0

Got uppity.

"We" didn't lose our thick skin - we started expressing our dismay at being pissed on all the time.

It is the bullies who have started whining about being called out for what they are.

Whose "we".

Who is being pissed on in this picture? What audience should find this picture offensive? I'm sure my bagpiper friends would be really upset.

You Social Justice Warriors just love picking some obscure societal problem and beat it to death. When you whine and cry, people will ignore you, no matter how noble the cause.

Is still whining and crying.

Complaining about complaining is still complaining.

If it isn't important, why are you paying any attention at all? Except, maybe, because you need something to complain, whine and cry about to feel important?

As someone who is at least 25% Irish, I am offended. If the Scottish man wants to pretend he is Irish, that is gross & scary. Or, alternatively, if an Irishman wants to pretend he's Scottish and wear a kilt, that is gross & scary. NOT "bad ass."

I was at the St Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin in 1999 when an American police Gaelic column (it may very well have been the BPD) went by in full tartan regalia. My Irish friend standing next to me asked "Why are they dressed as Scots?". I told him that I didn't know, but pointed out that its name wasn't specifically Irish, to which he pointed out the Irish Tricolor and shamrocks on the drums. I assumed that they were trying to cover all Gaelic bases. He told me that, while pretty rare, kilted Irishmen tend to wear longer, solid pleated kilts, usually in tan, beige or mustard yellow and are more of an old-timey military uniform. He compared it to someone from Boston wearing a Minuteman outfit or Civil War reenactors. He said that tartan patterns are Scottish. Later that week we saw some young guys wearing tartan kilts around, they were members of a visiting boys rugby team from Scotland.

IS a HUGE problem as is Avenue, Blvd, and Cul De Sac Harassment! Please don't joke!

She also said #notbuyingit

How much does she usually pay for the Dig?

I really wish I had the time to get pissed off over every little thing. I like being pissed off.

I just have too much work to do.

This didn't take any particular creative spark or editorial savvy. Pretty much everyone I know, including men who prefer kilts to pants, has made this joke sometime in the last week, with the imminent arrival of kilt-wearing season.

I can understand why certain self-defined communities feel the need to vent - and perhaps we should listen a bit because the comments about being upskirted to "verify" people's curiosity about trans people are valid. However, somebody just drew up what everyone was thinking (although they would have been better off to have looked up an Irish pipe band first).

Where's the outrage at the shape of the shamrock on the guy's shirt now?

Everybody's so worked up about the guy getting upskirted that they seem to be ignoring the ethnic stereotype depicted on the left and right sides of the picture.

Isn't the guy on the right in the skinny jeans wearing boat shoes?

Look at Adam, condoning this Southie-bashing filth rag called "digboston"! Just look at that classic Southie townie couple on the left. When will Adam stop persecuting my Southie bros?

STOP BASHING SOUTHIE!

he's lucky that that smartphone isn't being smashed repeatedly into his junk. Those things can cause permanent hearing damage in an enclosed space like that.

At least, there's no mouthpiece going to his, well, mouth. He's only carrying the bagpipes. People are allowed to carry their stuff when moving from place to place.
