DA: Man shoots into occupied car, won't drop gun when police arrive, gets shot in the chest

A Chelsea man is at Mass. General with a gunshot wound to the chest yesterday after an incident that officials say started with him firing repeatedly into people in a car outside a local pub and ended with him getting shot by police when he refused to drop his gun.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, Igor Peulic, 32, "fired several shots at an occupied vehicle outside the Chelsea Walk Pub" in Bellingham Square around 12:30 a.m.

The DA's office reports he didn't hit anybody.

Chelsea Police on patrol in the area saw and heard the gunfire. Multiple officers responded to the scene from various locations as the gunman, later identified as Peulic, ran from Broadway to 5th Street and then onto Chestnut Street. Officers ordered him to drop his weapon. Peulic ignored those orders. The preliminary evidence suggests that an officer discharged his service weapon on Chestnut Street, striking Peulic once in the chest. Peulic’s firearm was recovered from the scene.

The DA's office says Peulic is expected to survive and will be arraigned in Chelsea District Court once he's discharged from the hospital.

Chelsea Police are conducting an internal investigation into the shooting.

Innocent, etc.
