If you're going to steal booze at a liquor store, the 66 bus is probably not your best escape route

Boston cops have surrounded a 66 bus in Brookline Village, where they are offloading several teens who allegedly ran through Marty's on North Beacon Street stealing bottles of vodka and Hennessy - and searching for the bottles.

The Night Ridah, who is at the scene, says the kids don't appear to be more than 14.

who does not cross the street every time I see a black teenager approaching, I have a question for you. Don't YOU assume the kids were black? Would I be out of line if I said that I will give you a million dollars if they are NOT black? Why does it seem as if there's a hard-liner crowd who wants to prove how non-racist they are by a. Preemptively calling everyone else around them a racist and b. Ignoring or denying some basic truths about crime, culture, demographics, the racial economics of Boston--whatever intersection this is. It's tired. It stunts any kind of thoughtful conversation. And I'm starting to think that it gives a terrible boost to the Herald comment-section types who think they are the ultimate truth-tellers on this stuff.

i dont care how racist or non racist people think i am, but at least i can actually say what i mean and not hide behind words.

"Well, the truth is that thug today is a nominally polite way of using the N-word. Many people suspect it, and they are correct. When somebody talks about thugs ruining a place, it is almost impossible today that they are referring to somebody with blond hair. "

E: with regards to assuming the kids were black, actually, i didn't, since as a long time resident of newton/brookline area you don't tend to see many black people there. maybe they were jewish.

Glad to see you bringing the bleeding heart liberalism that those two towns are famous for to other communities that need more people without a clue.

you are really, really mad that i called you out for using the word thug. just because you choose to ignore the connotation of the word in todays society doesnt mean it doesnt exist. do you still call people faggots too?

You call me a racist for my use of the word "thug". Then you posit that I am "mad" because in your mind, you apparently think you have exposed me as a racist here in this forum.

However, my OP was enough to anger you to make a blanket claim about me when you've never met me, don't know of any of my experiences with all races and creeds and for all you know I could be black or Latino.

Now who is the one making generalizations about people you know nothing about?

what would it matter if you were black or latino lmfao

you ignant, son

"you ignant, son" Is this your idea of hep I'm-down black dialect or maybe I'm misinterpreting and you're doing your best Foghorn Leghorn imitation? But really--this is how you school someone in what a racist jerk they are, by adopting some kind of Samuel L. Jackson persona?

To return to the OP--can we please get a little review? He didn't call anyone a thug. I think we all get the implications of the word. He said "thug life" which I read as a joke--Hennessey being one of the big hep brands, thirteen-year-olds trying to act cooler and tougher than they are (and failing). The tone of the post was distinctly not "these young thugs should go to JAIL for life!!"

yeah im really worried about what the person that would bet a million bucks a random crime was committed by a black person thinks about how i post on the internet

lmfao

It was a specific crime in a specific area and a specific bus route which I know pretty well and you have apparently never been to. Hey--I may be wrong. Maybe Swirly's nailed it and it was a bunch of Russian thirteen-year-olds. But really--keep lyfao and hey, try out your awesome jive dialect on some of your black friends--I'm sure they'll love how you speak their language and all.

He lives in Belmont. That's where they don't have any trouble from those types. Nosiree.

They just send their AARP-aged gangbangers to Cambridge to stab and run.

Hmmm ... his name isn't Frank F, is it?

about how yes, clearly, Belmont seniors are clearly having a huge influence on the Boston murder rate. Huge.

Honestly--I like to think you're better than this. Don't talk daft.

You assumed they weren't black but were Jewish because they were in Brookline Village?
A. First off you are a racist for saying that. Are black people not supposed to trolling around Brookline Village?
B. Do you even have any idea where the 66 bus originates its route?

Boston is a mixed place, and, as we have seen time and again on UHub, there are plenty of violent White, Asian, and Hispanic idiots to go around.

If I were not so lazy, I'd link to the actual stories in relative amounts. Suffice it to say, we could use a few less white old guys around stabbing and murdering, given recent history.

I've ridden the 66 bus for years. The young kids on that bus are virtually all AA, going to and from Brighton and Roxbury. I am not saying remotely that there are not white kids from Brookline who behave badly, drink, steal stuff, etc but they are not going to hop on the 66 as their getaway car. And a reminder--we're not talking about violence or murder (though I hope you're not honestly trying to suggest that murder rates in boston are evenly distributed among Asians, whites, blacks, and Hispanics--I'm not even sure what "recent history" you're talking about--Whitey Bulger?). We're talking about a specific, actual incident of idiotic teen mayhem and if you're really sitting around wondering if perhaps these kids were Asian or Guatemalan or Nigerian for that matter, then I don't know what to tell you. I just don't know why it's so difficult to admit.

Except when they're not. I rode that same bus for years and didn't see anything like you describe. I did see plenty of white kids acting out, however.

Maybe things have changed a bit? Let's just say the little Russian teens were no angels back then, and I don't remember all that many African American kids on that bus, either.

I guess you only see what you are looking for.

Even a little bit? Or are you genuinely trying to say that I am just "looking for" criminal misbehaviour exclusively in black kids? Seriously. It's a shitty, stupid accusation. And really--I'd love to know when exactly you rode this bus and for what stretch when it was jumping with misbehaving Russian teens. Oh, and no black kids on the bus? Nope, definitely none to and from Brighton High, nosirree. Who's only seeing what they want to see here?

I rode from Dudley to Allston and back for years and I will tell you flat out that you don't know what you are talking about or that you're just too stubborn to admit that you're making it up out of whole cloth. Russian teens...for the love of God.

No, Sally, it was full of droogs on the way to the korovo milk bar. The moloko vellocet drives them mental.

Trust me, I'm from Medford and I know exactly who rides the 66 bus.

Just curious when those "years" were, specifically how recent. I ask because the 66 isn't my usual but I do use it from time to time these days.

As a witness to the event on the bus I can confirm not only by my personal account but the video footage I have that the suspects were in fact black, do I condone the racist comments, no however the facts are irrefutable

There are a lot of shots I could take about things (most of them slow-moving) that the 66 is not a likely prospect to escape/outrun... Honestly, though - there are so many I can't narrow it down!

There is so much crazy on that bus--maybe they just thought that s bunch of middle-schoolers with bottles of cognac would blend right in.

I posted this in the Westwood discussion on the use of the word "thug," and why anonymous comments that use it are not going to be posted.
