Maine pair admit prostituting a 13-year-old in Boston

The two, Shawna Calhoun, 24, of Lewiston and Alvin Houston, Jr., 27, of Auburn, pleaded guilty yesterday to driving a 13-year-old from Maine to Boston so she could service the men who called the number in backpage.com ads, the US Attorney's office in Portland, reports.

In their defense, Calhoun, born in Boston, and Houston said they thought the girl was 16, according to an affidavit filed by an FBI agent brought in to investigate the case of a runaway teen from Lisbon, ME last December.

While in the Boston area, the trio stayed at Calhoun's mother's home and "drove the 13-year old girl to various hotels in the Boston area to engage in prostitution," the US Attorney's office says. Calhoun took half the girl's earnings. When they returned to Maine, the girl continued her work. FBI agents set up a sting in a Bangor hotel room to take her into custody and arrest Calhoun and Houston.

The two face up to 10 years in prison.

"On Dec. 30, prosecutors said, Calhoun and Houston learned that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was looking for the girl. They drove her in the rental car back to Maine and ultimately to Bangor, where the girl again engaged in prostitution."

"Houston and Calhoun {} have criminal histories in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Houston's record dates back to 2009 and includes charges of drug possession, theft, carrying a concealed weapon and domestic assault. Calhoun has faced numerous drug-trafficking charges in the area."

What will be done for her? I can only imagine how this may scar her for life. Or does she just get turned over to child services and become a number in the system?

I hope things work out for her and that she, along with her family, gets counseling.

The teenager, who was not arrested or charged, was released to her mother about 5:30 a.m., Shaw said.

Read the arrest scenario. She needed the couple because she was too young to have a credit card, drivers license, own a car, rent a car, or rent a hotel room. She lost her innocence years before.

The movie Paper Moon comes to mind with Tatum O'Neil partnering with her father.
