Three shot in Roxbury

Around 12:45 p.m. at 92 Academy Terrace in the Academy Homes project near Jackson Square. The homicide unit is on the way, due to the severity of at least one victim's injuries. At least five shots fired, by somebody who got out of a pickup, fired, then got back in the pickup, which sped away.

WBUR reports the victims were sitting in a car; a brother and a sister were the most critically injured.

While these kids are on the streets attacking people during broad day lights, what is the police doing to assure the safety of regular civilians. My son witness some of the crime that took place over the weekend and i'm disgusted. What will be done?

That right there is the key to why things may or may not change.

Yes, this poster who could be typing on a phone, ESL, whatever is clearly the root cause of gun violence in boston. Get over yourself.

But I thought he was quoting that sentence not because of the imperfect grammar, but rather to point out that the poster's son can make a difference (for good or bad), depending upon whether or not he contacts police. If he was just pointing out bad grammar (which is entirely possible for any commenter on uhub these days), then you're right - he's an idiot.

In which case I apologize for jumping the gun. But still...sheesh. Don't we acknowledge at this point that it's not quite as simple as her son walking into the police station and telling them what he saw? It always sounds good but I can't say that I'd have the courage to do it if I thought I was going to get killed in retaliation.

At this point we don't know if any kids were involved so best not to immediately blame young people for this. I'm sure you encouraged your son to provide information to the police but I imagine that even that feels scary. You want your son to be safe. I live within one mile of this shooting and the one on Normandy St. I've developed a constant sick feeling in my gut so I can appreciate your sense of disgust.

We don't yet know if the person who did this is a kid. I feel like we should use caution before falling into the blame the youth trap. I hope you encouraged your son to report what he saw to the police.

Telling that the first reaction is to blame the cops. It's going to take a hell of a lot more than that to stop the real problem, and that has to come from within the community, not from the boys [and girls] in blue

well the community needs to work with the police, people who live there or were there (like your son) need to step up and say what they saw, the problem is people dont help police to do there job, hopefully your son reported what he saw......... its time to end the stop snitching non sense, otherwise we will live among voilence and have no reason to complain if we are part of the problem. sad but true

Baltimore, a similar sized city as Boston, has had 191 murders so far in 2015, 45 in the month of July alone. Boston has had around 20 murders so far in 2015.

There is no comparison to either or this is an irrelevant response to what crimes are taking place here. On the other hand Boston, MA has 336 unsolved murders dating back 10yrs. Know your facts before speaking up trying to scapegoat Boston for Baltimore. To make issues worse Boston, MA has the toughest gun laws compared to any state how do we Bostonians enforce our 2A rights when the Government in general is becoming tyrant. Be worried in general for crimes being committed by civilians turned criminal and authorities exposed as power hungry criminals.

Are both cities are comparable in size

One, Baltimore, has had 191 murders 8 months into 2015, 40+ in July alone; Boston has had around 20 murders as of August 1st. That is an astounding statistic, and shows how unbelievably bad the violent crime problem is in Baltimore and a handful of other American cities.

And the number of shootings in Baltimore far exceeds Boston. Nevertheless, the issue really isn't guns, it's culture, demographics and to some degree economics. I'm a strong believer in the 2nd Amendment.

Even one single homicide is a tragedy but if we are on comparisons - what about Hartford CT? A city only 100 miles away.. They have more homicides than Boston so far (20 in 2015) while Boston has FIVE TIMES as many people than Hartford.... I am a long time Boston resident and have been all around there is nowhere in our city with the same level of problems as our neighbors to the southwest

This is a city of less than 4.5 by 4.5 miles where shootings happen almost every day of the year and random violence is a fact of life. On Sunday a store clerk was attacked with a machete over a single cigarette.

Homicides are not an accurate measure of a city's safety. Shooting incidents are, and Boston's is very high.

We are lucky that our thugs are poor shots. I hear the gangbangers in Baltimore take the time to train their sights. And in Camden they are a bunch of Annie Oakleys.

So stop snitchin' peeps. Us'ems got work to do. Cops murder black men. They's the enemy. Just look at the stickers on the light posts in the middle of Columbus ave 2 blocks from where this happened (Dimock and Columbus). Black lives mattah all.

Might say something about our hospitals as well if the shootings are so high but the homicides aren't.

Through Sunday, Boston has had 145 shootings, which is still less than Baltimore's 191 homicides. Unless you are saying that Johns Hopkins Medical Center is a crap hospital, I am sure there have been additional shootings in Baltimore that have not been fatal.

That anyone gets shot in Boston is bad, but this is a relatively safe city.

This will forever be an issue in Boston and the reason being is that these kids have nothing to
look forward to and their idols are past gangbangers. More than likely their parents were or are unfit. Parenting has a lot to do with it! The Boston Public Schools absolutely suck and they don't learn a thing. It's sickening to know that these people shooting these guns look at it as a hobby. Furthermore, instead of sending great fathers, brothers, husbands, wives, sisters, etc oversees to war, anyone caught with an unregistered gun should be sent to Iraq and Afganistan as a first offense. I don't care how crazy that sounds, no one wants to hear depressing stories every f'n day about someone else who was shot or killed. It's out of control and disgusting. I am over Boston. Parents get a hold of your f'n kids and straighten them the F up...Take them out of the city if need be. Utterly disgusted.

Hartford is really just an inner city though..this year its going through a rough phase. I think last year it had 18 or 19 homicides. The truth, the deep truth is. Roxbury and parts of Mattapan/Dorchester are the worst in New England, by far. The amount of money poured into Boston's inner city neighborhoods plus the wealth just 2 miles away, plus the sophistication of the police, and the amount of community organizations against crime PLUS the toughest gun laws in the nation. And Boston still isn't one fo the safest cities. Odds still are in Boston if you shoot and kill someone you'll get away with it.. Boston has around 150 unorganized and reckless gangs that regular post 250+ shootings in a 15 square mile are of DRM. 250 shootings each year for 40 years. Boston gangs are huge no snitch advocates and the only reason we dont have a homicide rate like Hartford's is because we have much better access to hospitals throughout the city and a better Shot Spotter system. Hartford police are not only underfunded, but they don't live in the city and therefore don't really care. If you put Boston thugs into Hartford they'd take the city over in 8 or 9 months easy.
