Ed Harding continues bid to become one-man 24-hour news channel

New England One reports WCVB is launching an hourlong newscast at 10 p.m. on its MeTV subchannel, anchored by Maria Stephanos, who used to do the 10 o'clock news at Channel 25, and Ed Harding, who apparently just lives at the Channel 5 studios.

continues unabated.

MeTV is a popular retro TV channel that shows older programs. Who in their right mind would even think that adding a contemporary newscast to the lineup would be a good idea?

As the saying goes "penny wise and pound foolish."

It is a broadcast (sub)channel.

Yes, it's available over the air, bit it's also carried as a separate cable channel.

All the other Boston commercial channels have a news broadcast at 10 PM, somewhere on cable or over-the-air, or both.

a newscast, my first thought is "I'll tune into the station that shows old TV series."

Unlike METV, the othet Boston TV stations currently showing ten pm newscasts also offer a variety of contemporary programming and don't bill themselves as promoting a specifc format.

If I want to watch a newscast, I'll find a station that has a newscast. But don't force a newscast on an audience that tunes to a "retro, nostalgia, or whatever you want to call it" station - they AREN'T interested in it.

This is a hugely bad decision on the part of WCVB.

But I feel it needs to be said again. Ed Harding is THE WORST!
