Two-alarm roof-deck fire damages Beacon Hill condo building

Firefighters on roof. Photo by BFD.

UPDATE: BFD says the fire started in a rooftop flowerpot, but that investigators don't know what set that on fire.

A fire called in around 7:10 p.m. at 32-34 Hancock St. did an estimated $500,000 in damage, but caused no injuries, the Boston Fire Department reports.

The four-story building has 16 units.

Roof Decks should have mandatory fire sprinklers built around or above deck system. Or a heavy duty fire extinguisher should always be in reach, sorry, privileged yuppies don't do Manuel labor instead they will probably hire someone to do it for them, therefore they will not touch a fire extinguisher and this is why there are so many roof deck fires in Boston .

What does this even mean?

There are decks EVERYwhere in Boston. It's not a Beacon Hill thing, like cobblestones and granite.

Jeebus.

Manuel??? It's manual labor. Ugh.

Here's the thing. People should not be smoking on roof decks. Too many fires are started by careless smokers improperly disposing of their cigarettes.

(Given that it's capitalized, it's probably autocorrect.)

Oh if you don't get the reference, you have not watched nearly enough Fawlty Towers.

300 quatloos on "Improper disposal of smoking materials" as the cause of the fire.

There are grills all over BH roof tops. More than once there have been rooftop fires in September as new residents celebrate being in BH with a rooftop BB.
