This is an area in dire need of redesign--in fact WalkBoston did a walk-through this summer to look at ways the stretch could be improved, from the Columbus/Washington intersection which is chaotic and much too fast and then feeds the speedy, stressed-out drivers right into a very busy commercial area with lots of pedestrians, kids, the Y...Hoping the pedestrian recovers and also tjatbthis spurs some changes.

People are unusually aggressive about running yellow/red lights here, even for Boston. I've also had a couple of near-misses with pedestrians who leapt out into traffic from behind the delivery trucks that are constantly parked half in the intersection blocking visibility. Something about this one spot seems to bring out the worst in everyone. Considering that it's less than 100 yards from two separate elementary schools and the neighborhood YMCA, I guess it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. It's doubly frustrating because there's almost always a BPD cruiser parked within sight (probably because the building on the SW corner of the intersection was named one of the trouble spots in the neighborhood a few years back), but I've never seen them stop anyone for blatantly illegal traffic shenanigans.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Vision Zero now.
