I am constantly riding up and down Commonwealth Avenue for my job and on several occasions every day I see these trains running the turn signals thinking they can make it. Almost every time I see this happen I pull up next to them as passengers are loading and let them know that they are running red lights but no one ever takes responsibility they all think they were still in the yellow when they are not. I've had to slam on my breaks a couple of times making turns when I had the arrow and the trains would blow right through it if I had not been paying attention I would have clearly gotten hit. I've even pulled up next to the Transit workers in the SUVs giving them the train numbers but nothing seems to ever happen.

I don't know if that's something you are aware of, nor am I certain that motorists can see the green line's dedicated stop/go signals from the traffic lanes. I can certainly see them as a pedestrian or while a passenger on the train.

But since they do have their own dedicated signals, it is entirely possible that motorists can have a red light and the train have a green light at the exact same time.

Also, I believe that the trains have the legal right of way over a car making a turn...something it seems most motorists are unaware of.

The streetcars are also required to go through intersections at reduced speeds. A trolley may enter an intersection on a green light but by the time the vehicle clears the intersection the light has changed from green to yellow to red.
