With an average attendance of over 20,000 per game, MLS has the third highest average attendance of any sports league in the U.S.,[9] and is the seventh highest attended professional soccer league worldwide.[10]

Soccer fans also follow the U.S. national teams in international competition. The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Final drew a record 26.7 million viewers, greater than final games of the 2014 World Series or the 2015 NBA Finals, and the 2010 Men's World Cup final drew 26.5 million viewers.

While that may be true, it is also somewhat misleading. Nearly every NHL/NBA arena has a capacity of less than 20,000 people, so it is impossible for the NHL or NBA to have an average attendance of more than 20,000.

has a hair under 20k capacity. dont take my word for it though

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Basketball_Association_ar...

the NHL is a little bit lower, for example, the td garden when configured for hockey is 5-6 up from the bottom in capacity at 17.5k

you'd have better luck arguing your point in that theres a much shorter MLS season than hockey/basketball, probably.

either way its really silly to argue that soccer isn't popular in america and that that popularity isn't increasing. it will also continue to increase as more and more people come here from elsewhere- AND- fewer and fewer people play football. that football comment is an assumption, i havent looked at any data to see if youth football players are trending downward or not. but if they arent yet im sure they will be.

I bet most American sports fans coud not tell you who won the MLS Cup this year. Could you?

And yes, I do know when the Cup is being played, where (a bad idea, by the way) and which teams will be playing, but only because I am on an e-mail list of one of the teams (I saw the Revs play them away. Good experience, great crowd, but even I know where soccer ranks in North America.)

I'll freely admit to not following MLS, but now that I've looked up the information I'd be interested in knowing why you consider the Toronto stadium to be "a bad idea".

Look, the Grey Cup was played already, meaning the average Canadian knows that it is time for indoor sports (written by a guy who runs outdoors all winter).

I remember when the MLS Cup was played in early November. It's not like they had an European Championships break this year. The season is going on too long. Either be like the NFL and have the Cup in a place where there is no fear of subfreezing temps or play the Cup in November.

Predicted temp -4 (25), with a wind chill of -10 (14.) I predict that a lot of fans will be staying home for this. Who knows, they might even watch the Leafs instead. I guess it depends on what kind of torture you want to inflict on yourself.

In related news, Zenit St. Petersburg is through to the next round in the Europa League.

But you are stuck in 1999? That would make sense ...

Oh, if you see two dudes in a phone booth in your time travels, let them know about Colorado, Washington, and Oregon 2015, okay?

#HalaMadrid! It was a great game. Wish we could have won but six points clear of Barça is okay too.
