FBI offers reward for guy who's robbed banks in Jamaica Plain, elsewhere

Wanted for string of bank robberies

The FBI announced today it's offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to the capture of a man who's been robbing banks in Massachusetts and New Hampshire while accompanied by his moll.

Among the six banks Chaka Meredith allegedly hit: The East Boston Savings Bank, 515 Centre St., in Jamaica Plain. On Jan. 3, he allegedly waited his turn in line before giving the teller a note and saying he had a gun.

The FBI says he's also robbed banks in Lawrence, Pepperell and New Hampshire.

The FBI says he's usually accompanied by his girlfriend.

If he looks familiar, contact the FBI's Bank Robbery Task Force at 857-386-2000 or online at tips.fbi.gov

Insanity plea may work.

He just might have been dumb enough to rub a bank while wearing his uniform.

I guess you have never seen the teller who was robbed after the fact, but I can tell you from experience what you have said is thoughtless and idiotic. A man gives you a note, says he has a gun, is usually quite agitated and treatening, and how would you feel? Yes, it is not the teller's money but it is their life and it is implicitly being threatened if it isn't overtly. The "hurt" need not be physical to inflict damage.

You must have worked in accounting, not in the branch.

I once had an older woman who worked for us have stroke and have to retire after being robbed so, no, I don't find it amusing.

Do you root for convenience store robbers and carjackers too?

.. to risk your life dropping the dime on someone who is facing felony charges. FBI step your game up and at least offer 25,000. I am sure he has gotten away with much more than 5k.

It seems to me that when they report how much these guys walk out with, it's rarely more than a couple thousand dollars.

Individual tellers normally won't have more than 2K in their drawer, the robber's face gets captured on camera, and he winds up with the Feds after him. It doesn't make for a long career.

The appeal comes from immediate gratification and a complete lack of resistance from the victim. Robbing a liquor store might be much more lucrative but the person you are robbing may produce anything from a baseball bat to a shotgun.

I used to maintain bank cameras and responded to lots of robberies. Bank robbers are not very bright, forward-thinking people.
