City councilors get into it in Cambridge

Cambridge Day reports how Councilor E. Denise Simmons, serving as mayor this year, began yelling at Councilor Nadeem Mazen, not running for re-election this fall, over something to do with a budget meeting on the city elections department.

I was wondering how long it would take.... And there it is in the first sentence: misogyny. That realm from which none can return.

Simmons is nothing if not predictable. Decades as a professional victim will do that to you, I guess.

How dare you. No, how dare you.

Meanwhile theszak has found a treasure trove of archived council recordings. Jackpot!

I've always liked the Cambridge population, was there for more than 10 years before moving a few years ago. But the city government is just plain crazy, has been, and seems like it always will be. Fortunately until the biotech bubble implodes they're going to be awash in enough money to paper over the crazy. There's so much futile leftist or even true socialist energy directed at anyone in terms of city planning that's had the good fortune to be better off than the median area salary.

You have to love the chutzpah of some of these Councillors.

Mazen had the audacity to keep questioning the pay of the Election Commissioner who are paid around $35,000 a year while he pulls in $80,000 for his part time gig which includes an aide. The irony is that Mazen doesn't even see that the Election Commissioner work far harder and longer than he does for less than half the pay. Oh, and he acted like a complete jerk doing it.

So don't vote for him next time. Instead, vote for a candidate who wants to decrease the City Council's salary, if you think they get paid too much.

I didn't vote for him the first time he ran, or the second time he ran and if he ran again, ditto. I vote for candidates who earn their salary when they are elected, not self-absorbed jack-asses who look down their noses at other people.

Why is it Boston Elections Commission released listings of Potential Candidates for Boston City Council but Cambridge didn't release listings of Potential Candidates for Cambridge City Council yet?

To answer your question "The Zak", perhaps it's because they don't have the information yet.

Yes, people have announced and filed with OPFC, but things change. The filing deadline has not arrived so anything announced would be purely speculative. That's not the way good government works.

Think of it this way, Would the City Clerk release a list of potential birth certificates based on the pregnant women she sees walking past City Hall? Of Course not.

If you want a line on who's going to run, check out the Cambridge Civic Journal (the best bet) or your local 4th generation Cambridge bookie (a close second bet).

The City of Cambridge is denying you access to validly public public documents.

To be honest (for once, ) I think the City Clerks or whoever should be only announcing when candidates have enough signatures to be on the ballot. It is interesting to see who takes out papers, but theoretically anyone can go to City Hall and say they are running for an office.

Untrue about denying access to documents.

Cambridge nomination papers are not available until July. They're due back at the end of July. Until that time, no documents exist.

They're just willfully denying the Zak access to the validly public public documents.

Or you've just not seen the Zak in full Zak mode.
