Head of East Boston MS-13 branch wants to plead guilty to drug, gun charges

Flaco

Santos "Flaco" Portillo Andrade, the leader of the MS-13 East Boston Loco Salvatrucha "clique," agreed to plead guilty today to RICO charges related to his involvement in "an aggravated assault, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking," the US Attorney's office reports.

Portillo, 33, of Revere, was one of several dozen alleged MS-13 members rounded up in a sweep by federal and local authorities last year. He's the latest in a series of members who have agreed to plead guilty rather than face trial.

According to the US Attorney's office, District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor deferred accepting the defendant’s plea agreement until sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 26, 2017. If the court accepts the plea agreement, Portillo will be sentenced to 10 years in prison and four years of supervised release.

In May, another alleged MS-13 leader, Oscar "Demente" Moran, was charged with ordering the murders of two teenagers in East Boston. Authorities have charged MS-13 with killing six people locally, three of them teens, either as initiation rites or as part of a feud with a competing gang. Gang members allegedly tried to kill even more people, but failed.

Do you ask that for everybody who pleads guilty?

Being so damn PC. If someone is a head honcho in a violent Central American gang, it is perfectly reasonable to inquire into his immigration status.

International gang leader in international drug trade - check
Many gang members in gang have been deported - check
Ordered hits on immigrants - check
Gets a sentence that implies that he will eventually walk free within the US - check

Yeah, when its an international gang leader with many non-citizen underlings getting such a sentence, I have to wonder why the guy wasn't sentenced to serve time and then be deported.

Prison is a prize for Maras... there's no good place to put them, sadly.
And in general, deportation only makes the larger problem worse.

Is it nessesary to add East Boston as your title.
How would beacon hill people feel if they saw a headline that read ~
Head of Becon hill MS 13 branch wants to plead guilty.
First of all the leader is from Revere not East Boston.

He may have lived in Revere, but he was head of the MS-13 branch in East Boston - where three teenagers were murdered by the gang. And have you forgotten the shooting at Maverick station?

If he were the head of the MS-13 branch on Beacon Hill, where it killed three teens, yes, I would've written "Beacon Hill."

Why are you objecting to mentioning East Boston? I think we're a bit beyond potential hurt feelings or worrying about scaring off the yuppies clamoring for waterfront condos.
