Three shot on Mass. Ave. near Tremont

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. One woman was found inside 521 Massachusetts Ave., another found outside the building and a man found on Northampton Street near Shawmut Avenue.

Several cars were hit by gunfire. One nearby resident reports he heard what sound like half a dozen or so shots.

Police found two guns, one a few doors down from the Mass. Ave. location, one on Northampton Street.

John Costello, What are you even talking about? How do you know anything about a person based on their address? Also, the people living in that building were the victims, not the shooter (as far as we know)

Classified by the City of Boston as subsidized housing. So I, who was priced out of the South End in the 90's, who still can't afford to live in the South End, though I own my own business, and put in a 55+ hour workweek, is paying the rent of whomever occupies this apartment, though I would really, really like to live back in the South End. I would love to snack on something at Buttery and be able to walk back from Symphony Hall to my place. Alas, the subsidized housing structure of the South End stratifies the income levels of who can and cannot live there.

This apartment was involved in the committing of a crime. An apartment where the rent is paid for with my taxes. So I have every damn right to comment on what I (and you) are paying for.

Now, yes maybe there was a book club meeting going on and the discussion of the themes of technology in Jonathan Frazen's The Corrections got a little out of control, but the bigger question is why is someone bringing a gun into subsidized housing (and using it) and why was one of the victims found walking away from the closest emergency room?

Poor people have lived in the South End longer than you.

Please tell me how you know this is drug related and not either domestic abuse, or even a strong armed robbery?

Didn't we just have an example of jumping to conclusions being wrong with the those doctors at the Broadway residences.

Except it sounded like there was more than one shooter and that logic with the shots seems like people were shooting at each other.

I also do know however that the penthouse units at 9 Broadway aren't taxpayer subsidized.

It's not the poor people's fault you can't afford to live in the South End... It's the rich people who are willing to pay $3,000 a month for a "luxury" 400 square foot studio. That being said, I am also very middle class and have lived comfortably in the South End for the past 5 years. If you care that much about walking to the Buttery or whatever you can make it happen, you don't have to stoop to blaming shooting victims for your circumstances.

Who needs another lawyer or whatever in the south end. They need cheap labor too for leaf blowing and maid service.

Very American, Mr. Costello. Three people get shot and the only thought that creeps out of your selfish brain is a whine about subsidized housing.

What a great day to remind people that corporations work with a government that gives us missles and destroyers we don't need, farming subsidies for rich folks that complain about government waste, housing subsidies that work for those that do need them but are also used by people who don't need them all the while underfunding transit and road systems that you and I need to go to work to help the poor, but also more to the point, help the rich get richer.

God Bless America. You are underwriting it more than your fair share.

We need missiles and destroyers. And aircraft carriers. And brave men and women to defend us out there in the big bad world. We need to make our presence felt in foreign waters to keep the mullahs, tyrants and dictators afraid to step past the proverbial bright red line. We need a President that has the gravitas to make those that would attack our interests, allies and protectorates afraid of acting against us. Unfortunately we have too few missiles, destroyers, aircraft carriers and Presidents with gravitas these days. All we seem to have is enough brave men and women willing to defend us in the big bad world.

And when they are damages and come home we have nothing to offer them other than single -payer VA heath care when they return who leave them dying in the cue while the government paid doctors and administrators falsify the records to make their incompetency look like they are nearly adequate. ,

And the Progressives would force that single payer system on all of us. And you who complain of public housing would be made to bow at the foot of a bureaucrat refusing to help you so that they can keep Stalin;s (I mean the Progressives') friends happy. The deep state elites, their allies and friends will always be well cared for.

Welcome to the world of Trump, CNN, FOX, fake news and blogs. And Obama, The Clintons, The Bushes and Mrs. Bernie Sanders.

Complex speech. He was going to call The Military-CONGRESSIONAL-Industrial Complex, but dropped congressional at the final draft. I would keep the congressional and add academic.

Our military is fucking monstrously large and incredibly expensive. It is used primarily as muscle for multinational corporations.

No, I'm not a commie. Not even close. I don't think much of Donald Trump but he is certaintly correct in harassing Euro NATO politicians over their pitiful defense spending and America's doing a grossly disproportionate amount of NATO heavy lifting. The Germans in particular have been laughing at us for many years for subsidizing their defense.

Nothing so far says any of them lived there. It's a building with multiple apartments and a common front door.

Unexpected comment from you!

The current owner bought the property in 2002, according to the Registry.

Yes, the city assessor's website says it's subsidized housing but it seems that "market-rate" units may be available, too. (And, even though it's "subsidized", it doesn't appear to be property tax exempt, which I would assume it could / would be?)

My guess is that the trouble started over "near Northampton St".

You actually took time out of your day to look up the address of the building to see if it was subsidized housing or not?

You took 60 seconds on your phone to find out if a building has subsided housing? That's so creepy.

Sarcasm off.

What John may be saying and/or implying may be controversial or even politically incorrect, but I think it is a legitimate question.

No, it's not. Your taxes go to a lot more than paying for subsidized housing. Even if all your taxes went to thar, what's wrong with helping fellow human beings? You may be privileged but and I'm sorry you don't get to enjoy your buttery whatever the fuck it is, but does that mean a family with kids should be thrown on the streets? If people would just realize the mentality of "I have $10 i can afford to give my fellow HUMAN BEING $1" then the world would be a happier place.

Between mortgage interest deductions, the socialized access that we all pay for (roads, water and other utilities, etc) that make such housing possible. Ask about unsubsidized housing and I'll show you an off the grid house in the middle of the north woods, the Mojave or Sonoran deserts, or some island somewhere, with no road access and all needs taken care of in the vicinity (and even in those cases, it's highly unlikely residents of those places do not receive at least of the subsidized benefits of society).

I can see John's logic, but not sure the apartments are section 8? And lots of rich people in the south end are buying drugs encouragings dealers to run around the neighborhood and sometimes shoot at each other.....real question is if dealers had another option to get an education or job skills would they give it a shot?

Decriminalized the stuff, tax it, and fund medical treatment for those ensnared into abuse cycles (who are mostly using drugs to self medicate other mental and societal issue anyways).

They only take the risk because the rewards are worth it. Drive prices down and it isn't worth it.

simply for having personal amounts of drugs on them, 'drug paraphernalia', etc. I agree that many criminal offences should be civil or made legal. BUT DON'T KID YOURSELF: traffickers and dealers will simply come up with endless other toxic, potent products, bigger, better, more unique highs....also CHEAPER than what and more potent than the newly legalized highs.
