Man urinates on bar bouncer, bouncer punches him in the head

A bouncer at the Harp on Causeway Street is on the lam following an incident last month in which he reacted to being urinated on by knocking out the guy who did it, police said today.

At a Boston Licensing Board hearing this morning, District A-1 officers reported they responded around 12:15 a.m. on July 29 to the Causeway Street bar, along with Boston EMTs.

According to police, an "extremely intoxicated" man was in one of the bar's corners, his penis out as he relieved himself. A bouncer went over to make him stop, but that proved easier said then done - he turned the man around and the man just kept going, all over the bouncer's pants. The bouncer then connected with a single, solid punch, making the man crumple to the ground, police said.

When officers arrived, the bouncer had fled, telling other workers he had a warrant out for his arrest, police testified, adding that he was correct - the bouncer did, in fact, have an outstanding warrant for assault. He has not been seen since.

Bar attorney Dennis Quilty said the incident was unfortunate, but said the bar manager and other workers acted appropriately - they were the ones who called 911. There was, he said, no way for them to have known the bouncer would react like that.

The alleged micturator attended the hearing and testified that yes, he was intoxicated that night. In fact, he said, he was so intoxicated, he doesn't remember anything from that night - including urinating on the bouncer or getting punched by him.

The board decides Thursday whether the bar could have prevented the incident and, if so, what punishment, if any, to apply.

I say we close the entire North Station neighborhood down. The sidewalks are the most disgusting in the city (and I've seen them all). Thank God, after many years, our office decided not to renew its lease with H. N. Gorin. North Station is one of the major gateways into Boston so I don't know why the police and our mayor ignore the litterers, shoplifters, sidewalk defecators, sidewalk urinators, yaddah yaddah yaddah. It's just a dumping ground for mentally ill homeless, addicts, stupid drunk sports fans, barflies, and the list goes on.
Constant littering, pissing, and shitting. 311 is probably sick and tired of coming out here with their hazmat suits on. Walk on the sidewalk of Valenti Way at North Station, throughout the day, and you'll witness it and smell it. Walk on the sidewalk of Causeway Street in front of 7-Eleven, CVS, Half Time, and you'll witness it and smell it throughout the day, every day and every night.

Also doubles as a bathroom and trash basket. The sidewalk there needs a daily sweeping & steam-cleaning.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but it at the rate things are going at North Station, it doesn't look like it's be "all over" soon. Dude, go stand in front of 7-Eleven during lunch hour for 10 minutes.

Bar attorney Dennis Quilty sat there just staring off into space...

Bar attorney Dennis Quilty said the incident was unfortunate, but said the bar manager and other workers acted appropriately

...by over-serving a patron to the point that he was just shy of blackout drunk and incapable of determining that he was in the corner of the bar and not the bathroom when he started pissing on the floor and the bouncer.

That's acting appropriately? Nice.

... that all that happened was a bouncer got pissed on. The intoxicated patron could have left the bar, got into a car and killed or maimed someone.

How do you know this bar overserved him?

Then the bouncer let him in that drunk and he never ordered a drink.

Either way, the bar is at fault.

So Quilty had no reason to ask if the guy might have ingested something in addition to alcohol (it happens).

...you're going to get peed upon. Doesn't matter if they're drunk, or who's in the right, or whether they *want* to stop -- it's just a Bad Idea.

You deserve to get punched and then some. The bouncer did nothing wrong in this case. People deserve the right to protect themselves from disease causing bodily fluids. Yuck!

Yeah.

Get this: bouncers are supposed to be professionals. Sounds like this guy was a thug if he had a warrant out.
