East Boston bank held up

The Citizens Bank branch at 26 Central Sq. was held up around 9:10 a.m. by a white or Hispanic man, about 5'4" with a light beard, wearing a hoodie with gray, black and red stripes. He showed a note, then fled with cash in an unknown direction.

Why does it seem like most bank robbers are exceptionally short? Like half of the bank robberies on here seem to involve someone Dustin Pedroia-tall.

There is a homeless woman in a wheelchair who sits in front of that bank pretty much 24/7, every day of the year. I'm sure she saw the whole thing. Also, despite the fact that they just
renovated that entire Centrtal Square park area, that stretch with the Citizen's Bank, Dunkin Donuts Payless, etc remains very scuzzy.

Yeah, I had assumed they would just grind up all the undesirables and use them to pave the area; imagine my shock!

But in seriousness, that area is hardly "scuzzy". It's not Vienna-level clean, but there are pearl-clutchers that make that area seem like the Methadone Mile, or anywhere in the city with more than one homeless person begging for change. It may not be as sparkling as people like to remember it in the "good old days" when Joseph Russo was handing out Christmas hams and helping little old ladies across the street, or the army of nonnas were keeping things tip-top, but I've seen much, much worse.

In the place where the Payless and Citizen's Bank are now was once a store called "The Bargain Center" that was well known to East Boston residents of the 60s and 70s. It was a discount Filene's Basement type of place presided over by a little man with a microphone up on a mezzanine/balcony level where he would blare the bargains of the moment over a PA system and would not hesitate to admonish people opening packages or other behavior he deemed unacceptable over the same PA. This place was a hoot but I hated when my mother took me there as a child because it was drab and boring and didn't have any toys or fun things like the nearby Woolworths.

I wonder if this Bargain Center was related to the late great Bargain Center (a.k.a. The Bargy) in Quincy Center.
