Marinate your chicken in pickle juice and milk. Add a tablespoon of powdered sugar to your flour. Cook your breaded chicken in peanut oil. Never have to go to a Chik-Fil-A ever again.

There are also people that think coffee made from coffee beans that some wild Indonesian cat eats and then poops back out is delicious.

oh yea and don't support organizations that support bigots: chik-fil-a, patriots...etc.

Yeah we should all go to cafe nero with our laptops and pretend we're so much better than the people sitting on either side of us.

Not pretending.

The difference here is that your mental image of what people in "cafe[sic] nero" are thinking is pure projection - whereas we know that people who patronize Chick-Fil-A are materially supporting a corporation that is bigoted and proud of it, and they would have to be complete idiots not to know what they're doing. So, are you saying that Chick-Fil-A patrons are complete idiots, or are you saying that they're a-ok with bigotry?

Nope. I just know what the words "materially support" mean, and you don't. So, while I may not be a genius, I'm definitely one up on you.

Save your faux outrage for your next party where all your libtard friends can kiss your ass for being so superior to the rest of the human race. Asswipe.

Nothing faux about my outrage about self-righteous bigots like you who are shitheels and proud of it. You have absolutely nothing to be proud of, least of all the absence of a sense of shame and decency that would cause you to hang your head rather than waving your deplorable flag at every opportunity.

It's just fast food cheap ass chicken . Nothing special. Same as Mickey D's chicken. The rest is all hype.
Oh and the company is run by right wing extremist bigots. They're closed on Sundays too becasue selling cheap ass chicken on Sunday would offend the magic man in the sky.

If you have a company that:

  1. Endorses and supports mean-spiritedness, and
  2. Adheres to a religious tradition regarding when to open for business

then it is at best a distraction and at worse needless alienation of potential allies to mock that company for point #2.

up
Voting closed 0

The problem is that it squanders outrage

I'm not sure what part of that is more hilarious: the idea that mocking = outrage, or the notion that outrage is some kind of precious limited commodity that we must not "squander".

If you have a company that:
Endorses and supports mean-spiritedness, and
Adheres to a religious tradition regarding when to open for business
then it is at best a distraction and at worse needless alienation of potential allies to mock that company for point #2.

If, on the other hand, you can walk and chew gum at the same time, you can probably do both of those things and not break a sweat.

When #1 is directly caused by the same religious tradition from #2... yeah it's ok to make fun of people who believe in woo woo.

OMG the food is wicked good, and the staff are nice. Almost too nice. I can't wait. This is awesome news. In the words of Aziz Ansari (in "Observe and Report") "it's fucking delicious."

up

The staff are more than nice, they are consistently and almost impeccably nice. I assume they sustain a major portion of their positive attitude from the fact that all their customers are wicked happy to be there. Take a look at this thread and think about the perfect division of dbag haters who will "never ever set foot" and those posters who are happy to have a restaurant with great food and great staff. When I am there I am with my people, not even slightly put off when the line is out the door.

And +1 for the creepy pink colored Polynesian dipping sauce even though I am not sure what is Polynesian about it.

The secret to good fries is to rinse them after cutting to reduce the initial starch. Fry them twice, first at about 325, second at about 375. The first one cooks them through, the second one browns the outside. And use peanut oil.

You can buy fluted mandolins that make waffle cuts.

Lazy ass people won't cook for themselves no matter how many pro tips you give them. They want their gratification and they don't care who gets hurt.

Who is getting hurt if someone goes to chick-fil-a in dedham? Being morally opposed I understand. But is someone being physically harmed by someone in dedham buying a chicken sandwich here?

up
Voting closed 0

Any money you spend there goes back to the corporate coffers and then a portion of that is donated to hate groups that promote racial, gender, and sexual-orientation based bigotry. Also the food is not anything special, and hundreds [maybe even thousands] of local restaurants and bistros can provide you with better food and drinks.

this location, with the result that it closes. Who gets hurt then?

The LOCAL employees, who are now out of jobs.

The LOCAL store owner, who no longer has a business.

The LOCAL community, who no longer have the tax revenue from this business, and have another empty storefront as well.

And lastly, all the rest of us, who will have one less choice when it comes to food options. Less competition is rarely a good thing.

up
Voting closed 0

When it closes, the LOCAL demolition company gets to tear it down. The LOCAL construction companies get to come build something else. A new LOCAL owner gets to open something that doesn't send money to HQ. The LOCAL employees all get new jobs...maybe even above minimum wage! The LOCAL community gets an actual LOCAL business. And who knows, maybe the new place even sells food too!

This is all about where you choose to close your system (frame of reference for the discussion). Sure, you can frame the discussion such that it's all about this exact moment in time and these exact employees/owner...but that neglects all the other possibilities of what could go there instead or what other companies would benefit from cycling the location to a new concept/owner or well, just about anything.

Dedham Center has plenty of new local restaurants that have opened in the past year or so. This location has been a parking lot for years and years and years. So apparently none of the "local" businesses wanted the location or there were other reasons that they choose not to locate their new restaurants at that location.

Except in that part of the VFW, how many people are really jetting over there to get Chick-Fil-A for lunch during work?

Seems more like they're in it for the glomming onto the mall crowd location there. If they wanted to be a work lunch stop, you think they'd try to open somewhere downtown, like over on Union St.

up

Well, there is the Veteran's Hospital just a tad down the road no need to jet. They have a large staff, right, who might make the trip for starters along with all the other business that employ workers in the area.

enjoying fast food has absolutely nothing to do with how busy some folks are today.

And many do cook for themselves, but from time to time, want to take a break, ok?

up
Voting closed 0

...most people today don't even have the capability of cooking from scratch, not if you put a gun to their heads. If you gave them all the time in the world and all the ingredients and said, "Fry a chicken," they simply could not manage it, because they never bothered to learn the skills needed to do the job.

up
Voting closed 0

Roasting chicken pieces in the oven is much easier. Pointed in the right direction, I think most people could figure it out and prepare a healthier, less expensive, and even more delicious meal — if they wanted to.

Packaged, pre-prepared foods have been so over-marketed, most people don't realize how easy it is to cook from scratch. Roasting is a particularly easy way to cook, because the food doesn't need to be tended or stirred very often — just set a timer and do something else. When roasting foods such as chicken pieces: line the pan with parchment paper and there'll be little cleanup needed later!

Unless you learn from your grandmother, people nowadays have to actively seek knowledge of basic cooking skills. Fresh produce doesn't come with cooking instructions. As simple as it is to do, if no one's ever shown you how to cook delicious, fresh food, ... well, you just wouldn't know how easy it is. The packaged food industry certainly doesn't want you to know.

So, your contention is that as "good Christians", Chick-Fil-A refrains from doing business with those who exploit workers? Do tell! Can't wait to hear all the details!

up

My point is that plenty of people don't eat Chick Fil A and don't feel the need to let everyone know what justices they're protecting with their wallet. If you want to take a principled stance on something, be consistent in your convictions. At least Chick Fil A does.

Not that I'd expect the guy plastering this thread with pompous insults to understand, conflating "lazy ass people" who "won't cook" with fast food options, which is the whole friggin' point of fast food.

I hope I didn't let you down with your "gotcha" comment reaching for something extra that was never stated. It really is as uncomplicated as what I said the first time. Does the idea that separating a product from a belief system is possible clarify my "contention"?

Their most expensive "meal" is $8.59. So even if you went there religiously to collect your free meal every week, the highest value would be $447 which, multiplied by 100 people, would be $44,700 but I would think that on average the redemption rate would never reach 50 percent, and then the costs of goods sold would be maybe half that.

Does Chick-fil-A do this promotion with every new store opening? I saw the tents in the photo and thought it was strange, but then I saw the mention of free meals for a year and totally understood, given that I've heard Chick-fil-A is pretty tasty.

I'm in the minority on this, but I've never understood the appeal of Chick-fil-A. It's a chicken sandwich. It tastes all right, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. People really think it's that much better than other chicken sandwiches? Seems obvious people do, but what's the difference that you taste? Do you find it juicier? Tastier? Fresher? Anything specific?

up

I think they marinate in pickle juice, and so it's got a nice sweet and tangy taste. They're never rubbery either.

I don't eat them any more despite my frequent trips to the southeast due to the Cathy family's views seeping into their business. I wish some no-name corporation would buy 'em out and stop playing the fool without changing the recipe so I could eat 'em again in good conscious.

I happened upon the one at the Burlington Mall. I actually like their chicken and fries. I’m a nugget guy personally. The chicken is juicy, and the breading is delicious. As I quoted from “Observe and Report” above, they’ve had a good rep.

Then, to be honest, when I found out that they close on Sundays, I had to give them dap, because that is living your Christian faith, like how Joe Lieberman was fastidious about the Jewish Sabbath. You really look at the staff at that point, and they seem a lot more cheerful than typical fast food workers, which means customer service is great. I’ve been to the stand alone in Framingham, and staff will walk by your table and ask if you want a refill on your drink.

Of course, now it’s a political thing, but if the food and service weren’t good, I honestly wouldn’t be excited about this.

Making the statement

Bigotry with a side of type 2 diabetes. Its the southern way!

is kind of bigoted against those who like the food there. And against southerners.

But sure, bigotry is only when one speaks evil of those you like. When it is a group you dislike, anything goes, right?

Jon Stewart had a good piece when the protests against Chik Fil-A started. Some guy posted a video where he went through the drive thru and berated the teenager at the window in the worst way, who was really nice about it. Stewart, who supported gay marriage when few did, noted that doing things like that are horrible, that the guy was a horrible guy, and that it was no way to approach the issue. But again, the kid at the drive thru was the bigot and the guy screaming at her was the hero, right?

The 100 fast food contest winners should get their cholesterol checked before they eat their 1st free meal and then after one year once they've consumed their 52nd free meal. Then, decide if the free meals were worth it. Congrats, you just won free high cholesterol! Enjoy paying for those cholesterol meds!

Or you could take a simple minded approach to diet.

You should still watch the diet overall. Snacking between meals. Treating "indulgences" like fast food as your daily diet. Keep doing those things and all the running in the world might not help (he writes as he ponders his BMI.)

I thought we went through this before when Kenny Rogers put his chicken place across from Kramer's apartment.

Is there a website out there that tells you where you are supposed to spend your money and where not to? I have eaten many Chick-Fil-A sandwiches on road trips in the past years and was too ignorant to realize I was not supposed to eat there, both because the ownership is bigoted and the sandwiches contain an unacceptable cholesterol level.

I apologize to everyone out there who I have offended by these actions.

You could start by making a daily habit of reading a variety of reputable journalistic sources with a variety of political viewpoints, and then making your own decision as to where you wanted to spend your money.
