At least someone is playing the slots in Plainville!

Hopefully he's fired and loses his pension, not resigns and keeps it as is often the case.

A moderate slap on the wrist and stern warning in their strongly-worded letter.

Then they put him on unpaid leave.

Do you think an untrustworthy police officer should keep his job? He's already proven he cannot be trusted with evidence. Will he be charged with grand larceny? Will he be charged with tampering with evidence?

Will he keep his keep his job? Remember this is Boston during the Walsh admin. There is almost no transparency and very little consistency.

People Who Lost Their Jobs

  • Woman From Finland who, outside work, did BlackLivesMatter I-93 protest.
  • Felix Arroyo (paperwork city filed with MCAD did not say internal investigation found evidence supporting he sexual harassed an employee)

People Who Didn't Get fired

  • Two men (on paid leave) charged with Extortion of BostonCalling for union jobs.
  • Officer who produced a racist video in part about people of color being criminals

Just like 2 of the 3 people who didn’t get fired that you reference.

But hey, someday you’ll figure out that whole innocent, etc thing that Adam puts at the end of his criminal stories.

Union jobs give workers rights that are bargained with management. If it were up to Walsh he would have fired that cop right away. (The other union guys are a different story)

The "union guys" are ironically management, but the standard operating procedure is to put people on unpaid leave while the legal process works itself out. If they get cleared of the charges, a whole section of labor law would come into play. They could sue for back pay and their jobs back since there was no due cause for their dismissal. Of course, if they get found guilty, termination could come before sentencing.

But let's look at the other 2 examples. For Arroyo, there were no criminal charges, so an internal investigation could work quicker. For the expressway woman, the nature of her job made a quick dismissal very easy.

If you asked "should a police officer found guilty of theft keep his job?" the answer is obviously no. If you asked "should a police officer found to have violated departmental procedures keep his job?" the answer would also be no.

My question back is, do you support due process? If not, do you think that a police officer exonerated of theft charges should keep his job?

You're probably thinking they have their facts wrong

Nee stole about $2,000 from the evidence file of a closed bank robbery case, authorities said. The stolen money had traces of red dye from an anti-theft dye pack that discharged during the bank robbery, the statement said.

Nee fed some of the stolen cash into slot machines at Plainridge Park Casino, authorties said. He then tried to trade some of the stolen money at a kiosk at Plainridge for cash that wasn’t tainted with red dye, the statement said.

The Herald was the first to report earlier this week that Nee was under criminal investigation by Healey's office.

I'll apologize for phrasing my question incorrectly if they do.

Looks like we agree: "..the answer would also be no."

Nee is alleged to have stolen about $2,000 from the evidence file of a closed bank robbery case.

I mean, did I miss something? Did the case already go to trial? Was there a verdict? If not, the key thing is that the case is ongoing, and employers are careful to act while criminal charges are pending.

I hope you don't get called for jury duty much.

LET'S ALL REMEMBER KENNY CONNOLLY..

up

And when Conley was found guilty, he was fired. Then he was exonerated, he was reinstated with back pay. If all the evidence was given, he would not have been found guilty. But he was on paid leave while the trial went on. Again, that's why you put people on paid leave while the criminal justice process is going on. Thanks for making my point.

By the way, after you learn that ALL CAPS is really annoying, try learning how to do research so you can at least spell the guy's name right.

The two in question are not with the BPD. They are City Hall flacks. Maybe USWA, but you’d be surprised how nonunion the upper echelon of Boston government is.

I'll give you that they are also known by another name, but if you know so much about City Hall, you already know their other name. Technically they are the USWA.

I don't need to know how powerful the BPPA is. Anonymous asked about the other guys and I gave the background. Have you been in City Hall since 1993?

well compensated for playing a game. They certainly are not oppressed. They should set up a fund with the millions of $ they recieve from playing a game and financially help those they claim they care about. I'd be interested in someone doing an investigation to see how much these wealthy athletes donate to this cause they claim they care about and to charities that benefit the communities they claim they care about. They should also act as good examples for the young men they claim they care about, almost all of whom come from unstable single parent homes and chronically dysfunctional communities. Most of these multimillionare athletes are horrible role models and everyone knows it. On this issue they're mostly good at grandstanding and attention whoring.

This cop will be fired and criminally charged.

And if you think the U.S. is as evil and bad as you claim, you are either unfamiliar with the level of degradation and corruption that exists in most of the non first world or are delusional.

"Those football players are extremely well compensated for playing a game."

I don't think that in professional sports leagues, compensation and the right to peacefully dissent should inversely correlated.

No other president has demanded that any class worker give up their right to peacefully dissent as a condition of employment.

The recent history of the NFL is significant. Department of Defense paid NFL team owners millions to put on displays of patriotism that for the fist time featured players on the field during the national anthem. Profitable patriotic displays that required the players participation without a piece of the action.

The president will press this issue so it's incumbent on the NFL Players Assoc and NFL owners to come to an agreement. I hope authoritarianism that prohibits peaceful dissent loses the day.

Wow, way to generalize. Are you a statistician or a social worker? Surely that sort of pronouncement must come from some sort of expertise on the subject matter. Otherwise, it sort of sounds kind of--what's the word?--racist. Small wonder you posted anonymously.

Also, how do you handle the burden of being the arbiter of what is and isn't legitimate civic expression? Since that's obviously your job, I have to ask: is slapping a $2 "Support our Troops" ribbon on one's car "grandstanding and attention whoring," or does that only apply to causes you don't give a shit about personally?

And if you think the U.S. is as evil and bad as you claim, you are either unfamiliar with the level of degradation and corruption that exists in most of the non first world or are delusional.

Yeah, that right there is a comparison we really want to be involved in. Way to Make America Great Again, buddy.

The football players are standing up not being THEY are necessarily oppressed themselves, but because athletes are some of the few black people that many white people pay attention to - particularly those white people who might not be overtly racist, but are still ignorant to the reality that a black person's experiences would be different from theirs. It's pretty easy to ignore black musicians, artists, actors, politicians, writers, spiritual leaders, etc, but if you're a sports fan, black athletes will be on your tv every weekend.

I have to say I can't rap my head around this how one of BPDS hero's could steal 2 thousand red stand bank robbery dollars. This truly puzzles me I would have bet money that the money wasn't stolen with everything else our finest stole a few years ago then again they stole so many drugs they were eating so many different color oxycontins by the time they stole EVERYTHING they were so high their eyes were shut.Who knows what happened ,I at least hope all the criminals our hero's took 9ff our streets (for a little while anyway) went to jail.Cause BPD officers got transferred yep to harsh Think of it this way the one and only good thing that happened when they stole from their own was it was brought to light and it hasn't happened again for a couple yrs? If only out of work paid officer Née wasn't noticed putting red money in slot machines it would have compared to the bring job.reading his name n time he started on force let's thank who made him a cadet anyone anyone

I know this guy. I actually went to a fundraiser for him years ago because he had a brain tumor. This is really out of character for him and not sure why he would do this. I think the tumor was inoperable so maybe it is affecting his decision making. I know that he got a desk job because of it and that's how he landed this position.

Most people on this post let their imagined story of a corrupt, stupid, overpaid cop stand in for the facts (including me). It turns out the story is completely different and this likely decent policeman needs compassion and not derision.

He also needs to retire.

Thanks for standing up for him.

MeeToo knows this brace officer and turns out this cop had or had a "brain tumor" this is possibly why he stole from the evidence also is unarmed n at desk cause he caught a brain tumor somethings going around a couple guys I work with caught the tumors too. My moms doc who just did open heart surgery on my mom caught a brain tumor also.joking aside with this type off illnes I can c the Brass not wanting meetoos significant other on the street with weapon making major split second decision s so putting him with access enough high powered rifles uzis who knows I do no a major city may have weapons also plent of drugs in their it most likely was safer then the damage he could do with one gun. They did have fundraiser for this hero officer and they collected enough money to do research that found no tumor although He does they learned have a serious n incurable case of LIABILITIES. Google what Soon 2 b security guard née earned last yr as another one of Bostons finest.

WTH is your point?

Normally I always suspect cops of evil doings...
But just today I was driving in southie along the water/projects and just happen to notice there's a sign attached to one of the buildings that denotes it had the Joseph Nee community center.
I found that very interesting... That a cop that is honored with a facility naming could be the same cop with evidence stealing/gambling problem...
But this tumor news changes things. I would not be surprised to hear that some meds he's on are screwing with his sense of judgement. There was a great NPR story (might have been American Life) on a lady who gambled EVERYTHING away because of some meds she was on.

That community center is actually named after a different Joseph Nee who passed away. He was a firefighter and a great great person. Nickname Dodo Nee. He is missed by many.
