Police interrupt armed home invasion in Dorchester; two arrested

Boston Police report officers responding to a report of a burglary in progress at 5 Lorenzo St. around 1:45 a.m. found two men inside who didn't belong there, one with a gun, in the middle of holding up several residents:

According to police:

As officers began to surround the residence, they could clearly hear the sound of some sort of commotion inside accompanied by the sound of male voices yelling. One officer observed an open window on the first floor with a towel hanging out of it and slowly approached to check it. When the officer moved the towel to the side and could see clearly inside, he observed a suspect, later identified as Clayton Rodriques, 21, of Dorchester, standing in front of him on a staircase with a gun in his hand. The officer immediately drew his department issued firearm and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon at which time the suspect fled towards the rear of the building. Officers ran towards the rear of the home where they observed the suspect running towards the backyard fence. The officers followed the suspect through several backyards and out onto Morrissey Boulevard, crossing towards Neponset Avenue then through Garvey Playground. Officers continued to give chase until finally apprehending the suspect in the driveway of 17 Tolman Street. The officers later retraced the suspect’s path of flight and surrounding areas near the property at which time they safely recovered a loaded revolver.

Police say other officers who went inside to check the house found several residents, physically unharmed. And then spotted Daronde Bethea, 25, of Milton, climbing out of the house onto a porch roof.

Rodriques and Bethea were both charged with armed home invasion, armed kidnapping, unlawful possession of a firearm and assault by means of a dangerous weapon, police say, adding the investigation into the incident continues.

Innocent, etc.

The 25 yr old suspect was arrested in 2011, allegedly part of a "gang murder plot" and charged with weapons vilolations. I could not find subsequent info on time served, if any.

Perhaps last night's actions by BPD and whoever reported the crime in progress saved lives.
