Chelsea wants Massport to build a $3 million park as recompense for Logan airplane noise

The Chelsea Record reports on a city-council meeting about airport noise and residents - some officials want to use a new BU study on noise issues to sue Massport, while others want to use it to help convince Massport to pay more mitigation money.

"We're messing up your family's health and child development, here, have a park, now go away, so important people and money-spenders can fly in and out all the time."

We moved into this community KNOWING we were near an airport. But now we've decided we don't like it, so we're going to try to extort money from the people who run the airport.

FIFY.

Looks around, looks at birth certificate. Pretty sure I was born here. Pretty sure my mother was born here. Pretty sure her mother was born here. Pretty sure her mothers father was born here... quite certain thousands of people from Chelsea were there for generations. Then there are those who have been here for decades.

The airport has changed. It has changed dramatically in the past couple years and even more so over the past few decades. It has expanded , it has changed flight patterns.

So your assessment is null. Maybe instead of expanding Logan we should create a runway in your back yard. Better yet maybe we should find the one thing in your neighborhood that is not great and enlarge it 100 times. Then move it closer to your bedroom. Then blame you for choosing to live next to it.

They should check out the East Boston study and all the asthma and copd.
Forget the park. It's time to do something about Logan being over capacity and the concentrated flight paths.

Per Cybah, this town is a wretched hive of scum and villainy so why give them $3m? It will be overrun with junkies in seconds.

I never said that. I complain about the junkies but not the town as a whole.

An objective analysis (oh, horrors, let's just be political) will show that -- beyond East Boston -- the communities most impacted by Logan flights are:

  • Winthrop -- especially the Point Shirley and Court Road sections
  • Revere -- especially the Beachmont section

Chelsea, while adjacent to Logan, has relatively few overflights. Most are 'toward' or 'from' the water, and not over Chelsea.

But, nice try anyway.

I live in a valley in Chelsea and am buffered by large structures so I live in a weird "silent" zone and my tv antenna still loses signal a couple times an hour due to low planes.

When I go to any of the hills the problem becomes quite apparent. Counters shake, you can't hear. With more international flights it rumbles the entire neighborhood at night. During busy times I literally counted one plane every 30 seconds during some points this summer over the same exact spot on Marginal Street. In fact during the City Council meeting discussing the situation a few months back we had to stop talking twice as the planes went overhead. I remember because I was in the middle of talking about the situation and suddenly the room was enveloped in noise. This past meeting we had rumblings but luckily it was not loud enough to stop the meeting.

We have actual sound studies from BU using the info provided by the city from Logan Airport to back up our claims about certain segments of the city. Especially the hills (funny that high points near

So please feel free to keep trying to push all of your shit into our community but we are going to keep pushing it back. For those keeping tally at home we also keep all the road salt for New England and most of the jet fuel for all those planes. Not to mention most of the food that ends up in your super markets and now all of your flowers.
